I think my grades in school and test grades are relatively good but I'm a little worried if I'll have to boost my SAT I scores a little more. I don't know if my lack of extracurriculars will also affect my acceptance into the school. Also, I would like to know how generous Carnegie Mellon is with their Financial Aid. Please give me some feedback!

Carnegie Mellon is pretty stingy when it comes to financial aid… they don’t promise to meet ALL need like many schools. However I think your chance of getting aid increases a lot if you ED (not sure though).

Your SAT I is a little on the low side, try to get it up to at least a 2100. I also think you should retake Math II and aim for 760+ (Math II has a generous curve, and a lot of applicants get 800s in it).

I would say that engineering at Carnegie Mellon is a reach. You’re GPA is fine, but your SAT and ECs are lacking. Try to bring your SAT up to at least 2070 and your subject tests to 760+. On the topic of financial aid, Carnegie Mellon gives less compared to other schools. Good luck though.

I’d call it a reach too. Definately not unthinkable, but the engineering school is so well known it’s pretty competitive. As to financial aid, the package we received was nearly to the penny what their calculator predicted. If I’m remembering right, theirs was a little different in that you input your info and they mailed you your estimate. As mentioned they are open about giving more aid to ED applicants (how much more, I’m not sure) and they also match packages from “peer schools”, a list of schools that I believe is even listed on their website.
