Hi. Pleaseee chance me at Claremont McKenna and schools like Loyola Marymount, Occidental, etc.

To be frank, i F**KED up my second semester of junior year because of some personal problems. My unweighted GPA is around 3.1 because of this, yet i have taken fairly rigorous classes thus far.

Junior Year First Semester
Pre-calculus: B
AP US History: B
Honors English: B
Chemistry: A
Spanish 3: A
AP Pyschology: B
Unweighted GPA for 1st Semester: 3.33

Second Semester
Pre-cal: D (Currently making up with an online program)
AP US History: D
Honors English: C
Chemistry: C
Spanish 3: B
AP Pyschology: C

I got a 3 on my AP US History AP test and a 5 on Pyschology, if that means anything.

660 on math2 and 680 on Literature.
32 on ACT. (10 Writing)

What are my chances at these private schools?
I feel i'm a good fit for McKenna, but i'm afraid they will laugh at my grades.
I plan to include an explanation about my situation in the excess part of the common app, if that helps any?

I believe my writing and essay to be above average.

Why do you believe you are a good fit for McKenna? Are you sure that's where you really want to spend the next 4 years? Of course, you'll say yes, but think about it. What are your reasons for really wanting to go there?

I want to go to CMC simply because the atmosphere just seems fitting to my personality. I have visited briefly and feel very comfortable there. I cannont think of a reason why i would NOT want to go to CMC. But i'm considering other private schools in the area as well, because i think they will be more forgiving than UCs with my GPA.

Sorry- CMC is going to be tough. My S didn't get in with a 3.7 UW GPA (all honors and APs), 2210 SAT.

But you really never know. On our tour, they said the essays are very highly considered- so give it a try. You also might want to go to one of Information Sessions. Our tour guide was a bonafide genius/nerd but very cool.

I don't think it's likely, I don't think my kid is getting in with 4.1UC GPA and about 2200 SAT, their number of applications is sky high and they are "in" right now. However, you should look at Pitzer, it's a little easier to get in and you can take CMC classes.

On the positive side, they will read your application, so a compeling story could do it.

as a cmc student and someone working with admissions, i would want to kno what your gpa without that second semester of junior year would be and how compelling these personal issues are. if the answer to the former is high and hte answer to the latter significant, i wouldnt count it out completely, but it is still reachy (16% admit rate, we just got a 200 mil donation from an alum and a 20 mil donation from bill gates, and were building a new dorm)
