What are my chances for Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, Columbia, and MIT? These are just 4 schools I have visited and liked. I think that should be the rank from easiest to hardest to get accepted, I might be wrong though so please correct me. CMU might actually be more competitive than cornell.

I want to do either chemistry or physics. I'm actually pretty good at math even though my standardized test scores dont show it. I'm really proud of my 790 in CR, but that 690 in math is kinda bugging me esp since I'm applying to science/math oriented programs. Should I retake my SAT Is come october, or should I move on to doing subject tests? Should I retake my ACT or is the 31 good enough?

I'm also concerned whether these schools will be a good atmosphere for me. I'm a kinda goofy, funny smart kid. I like a fun atmosphere that's also great and challenging academically. I'm concerned that cornell may be too big (15000, that's like 30x my high school), columbia too metropolitan, and MIT too insane. CMU impressed me the most on my visit.

So please help me out answer my questions, give me ur opinions on my chances, and any advice that you have.

Thanks!

It is good that CMU impressed you. Your chances are the best there. Apply to a few safer schools though like University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Wrong forum.

You obviously have worked really hard-and would be an asset to any school. Because this year was extremely competitive, I would encourage you to include more schools that your stats would be considered matches/safeties. Many times admissions is a crap shoot, and you want one or two schools to choose from. Several CC posters applied to only schools they thought were "matches" given their strong stats, and then found themselves with all rejections-and no college to attend this fall. It doesn't mean you are qualified to ask/apply, it just means you should hedge your bets.

you should check out the schools SAT 2 requirements

most of them require 2
and you'll need a math and a science
keep in mind that those of the people that apply to these top schools have really high SAT scores(many higher than yours, especially the math, that won't look good for MIT), unless you have really good extracurricular (which you are kind of lacking in math and science) your chances won't be high.

but apply! you have a chance
but like others said apply to some safeties too. cuz you never know and apply to safeties that will give you scholarship too!!
