Chances at CMU

Hello. I am looking to apply to the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. I am from a very small rural public school in Kentucky.

Tests:
ACT: 29, 30, 33
ACT with writing: 33
SAT Math I: 790
SAT Chemistry: 530
AP World History: 3
AP US History: 4

Stats:
1st in class
Taking the hardest schedule my school offers (which isn't that bad when compared to other schools. Our highest math class for example is AP Calculus AB)
GPA: 4.0 (out of 4)

ECs:
Captain of Academic Team for 3 years
Captain of chess team for 2 year (only had it for 2 years)
Member of marching band for 4 years
Member of pep band for 5 years
Member of concert band for 7 years
Section leader in band for 5 years
Beta club
Tennis team for 5 years (best for 3 years)
STLP club
Kiwanis Key Club

Extras:
I have the highest ACT score ever from my school.
I have the highest AP US History score ever from my school.
I am the only person who has ever passed AP world history
I am a Kentucky Governors Scholar (most prestigious statewide program in Kentucky. You spend 5 weeks on a college campus with other scholars and take classes)
I don't have much community service because my parents own a business and most of my free time is spent helping them and managing website, etc.

I'm planning to apply early decision. I heard somewhere that CMU meets all of your need based financial aid if you apply ED. Is this true? My family makes about $35,000 a year combined. I have 8 College Board Application Fee waivers so if I don't get accepted into CMU I can apply to 7 more top schools. Do I have a chance with any of them? Thank you so much!

CMU: Match
You have a solid ACT score, rank, GPA, and ETC’s.
Good luck!

The SCS is a LOT more competitive than the rest of the school. i heard its admissions rate is something like 8% so its basically as competitive as the ivies.

your grades and ACTs are fine, but these colleges look at people on a national scale; there are thousands of ppl with the ‘highest scores’ in their school. a lot of your ECs dont seem really focused on math or computer science and are not very unique

based on that, I’d call CMU a reach for now

I’m in every technology related EC that my school offers. I basically run every technical aspect of my parents business. What can I do to strengthen my chances?

CMU is a match. Goodluck!

guys remember CMU’s SCS admission rate is 8% not 30% like the overall school
