Chances at CMU?

Does anyone have any advice on what things CMU really looks for in their applicants? I hear they don't really look into EC's. Please tell me my chance in getting accpeted with the following stats.

CMU is different in that you apply to a particular school, so you can get rejected at one but into another within CMU. The selectivity varies with the school so you'd have to list what school(s) you'll apply to or what major(s) you might be interested in.

I'm probably going to apply to Tepper or the school or sciences?

anyone???????????

Tepper is harder to get into than Mellon College of Science. Your class rank will help. No one knows but I think your chances are good.

What kinds of things do they focus on at CMU?

I'd say they look a lot at EC's and talents / qualities, but then again, I applied to mostly tech schools so it might just be by contrast..

someone told me that CMU doesn't really look at EC's am I wrong?

CMU is a selective school. They definitely look at EC's, all top schools do except for maybe some of the biggest state schools; how would the person who told you otherwise know?

anyone else?

Plz.......................

I can't tell you much without any real scores, but I will tell you now they need to be good. Tepper is getting more and more competitive and your ec's are extremely weak. Whoever told you CMU doesn't look at ec's is mistaken, they look VERY MUCH at the whole applicant. Applying ED will help you but I would definetly recommend you get seriously involved in something because you look mediocre right now.

And I mean seriously involved as in president of some clubs are some other position. Three years and no position may be looked upon as a lack of real interest in the club.
I had over 2000hrs. of community service by the way

does anyone have any suggestions on some other schools I should consider applying too with my stats?

come on............................

Up the SATs scores and you're in, big poppa. I doubt anyone is going to deny you with a class rank like that.

what kind of EC's would give me a good hook? Leadership positions can't be fixed for me right now because they have already decided on those positions for the clubs at my school already.

I am in a safety committee in a SADD club at my school. Although, I am not an official officer I am basically in charge of the committee. On, my application can I put committee leader or manager or something. Do they check up on those things?
