Hi, im a white, will be senior and i was wondering what my chances of getting into Cockrell ChemE are.

EC's: Engineering camp at UT last summer, Interning at a natural gas company, NHS, Key Club, Tennis, Orchesta (Vice president, play violin and string bass), Computer Science club (Vice President), possibly president of Student Secular Alliance, depends on whether or not our administration will pass it.

Letters of rec will be awesome

So thats about all that i can think of atm, plz tell me what you think! Also i realize i reposted almost the exact same thing but i feel like getting a new opinion as circumstances have changed, i also moved it to the correct forum lol.

I think your stats look really strong for ChemE. I have HEARD that honors is very difficult to get into - you need a ridiculously high SAT (1500+ for M/CR), supposedly. I’m not an authoritative source, though! Maybe somebody can give you more info.

MaineLonghorn thanks for replying so quickly! Yea i figured that my stats would probably get me into chem engineering(not trying to sound cocky or anything) but unfortunately im soooo insanely bad at cr that it will be a challenge to get into honors, i guess ill just try and prep the entire summer lol  This also kinda annoys me though, how little my writing is weighed, granted thats just probably because my cr score sucks but i feel like my SAT (M + Cr) is a really bad representation of my abilities just because im bad at cr, anyway just to end that mini-rant, thanks!

Bump…

Honestly, whether you make it in Honors or not doesn’t really matter. The only perk is living in the Honors quad. You can always apply later if you have a 3.5+, since the whole purpose of Honors is to do a senior thesis.

That being said, it seems like you have a decent shot. Maybe if you write a strong essay for the Honors application, it’ll put you over the top, but if you get a 1500+ M/CR, you’d pretty much be absolutely golden.

Thanks, from what i’ve heard honors doesnt pose much of an advantage but if i can get in i will! Also, do you think ill get in the normal chem program?
