Chances at Cockrell UT Austin

Hey I am a senior who will be graduating in 2013 and am literally desperate to go to the Cockrell School of Engineering (ChemE or ECE). Here are my stats i would greatly appreciate it if some one would reply and give me some feedback on my chances. Thanks a lot

Rank 15/542
Unweighted GPA 3.81 (out of 4)
Weighted GPA 5.51 (out of 6)
ACT composite score: 30 (32 math, 28 science, 32 reading, 28 writing)
SAT: 2040 (690 math, 690 Writing, 660 Reading)
Average EC's, essays and community service
Very good teacher reccomendations
Have taken all AP/Pre AP classes throughout high school
Played high school soccer

I say you’re in

Ok sounds good! Really do appreciate you taking the time to reply. Some one else wanna input their opinion?! :)

Are you in state? If thats the case then I believe you are automatically admitted based on your class rank.

Yes, I am in state and that rule does automatically put me into the University. However, this does not mean that I am automatically accepted into the college of engineering, which i heard is very competitive to get admission into. That is why I am a little nervous. What do you think are my chances for admission into Chemical or ECE?

Match I’d say.

Thanks! Any other opinions? and how do my chances look for Georgia Tech or Berkeley? And which one do i have a better chance for ECE or chemE?

GA Tech: Low match
Berkeley: Match (OOS helps if you don’t have to rely on institutional financial aid)

Thanks for the input! And people are saying that electrical engineering is one of the easier branches of engineering to be admitted to in UT Austin. What have you heard about that?

EE is notoriously one of the easiest branches to get into in UT, i would say youve got a good chance at ChemE but i cant say anything for sure, your sat math is low, which is not good for engineering, but your rank is definitely high enough, id try to atleast get that math about 720ish if you want to be in for sure.

yea my sat math is my only weak point, but how about my ACT math? How does a 32 equate to a SAT math score?

Ok so i have been reading some other posts and it seems like i dont have a very good chance at all for chemE at UT Austin :frowning: how are my chances for Electrical Egnineering looking?

Just got my ACT score back and i received a 32 composite (34 on math, 31 on science, 31 on english and 30 on reading) how much should this improve my chances? and does any one know the exact conversion from a 32 to a sat score? And how does a 34 on math equate to the math score on the sat score?

A 34 on an ACT subsection equates to a 750-760 on the SAT.

Now you can consider Cockrell a safety for EE; ChemE is a (low?) match.

Thanks! Around what score do you need to get into chemE?
