I live in Oberlin, and while by no means am I conservative, I'm looking forward to going somewhere less "liberal" that Oberlin college. If these schools seem like too much of a reach for me, it would be fantastic if you could offer me suggestions to lesser schools.

I am looking primarily for schools East of Ohio, or even in Ohio. I know I'm going to sound like a douche, but going to a school with an attractive female campus would be a huge +.

As of now my plans would be to apply Early Decision to Colgate this winter, if this is totally unrealistic let me know. Thanks in advance.

help would be greatly appreciated

colgate: high-mid match if ED
BC: high match
Hamilton: match
bucknell: high match, low reach

TBH you dont really stand out. Youre the classic above average student (Nice clubs, decent ACT, good GPA, but not really anything outstanding) To be more specfic, if youre studying business then make a business. if youre studying medicine, intern at a clinic. If you want to be an engineer show that in your application. I think youll get in to at least 2 of the schools including colgate. BC and bucknell are a toss up but youll get in to at least one of those. good work any way. chance me back

Thanks a lot, I agree that I need to add another dimension to my application

i feel like you should get in. idk how the girls are there.

thanks bro @theanaconda, haha when I visited Colgate I was blown away actually. Good luck at whatever HYPSM you apply too

lol. didn’t know girls was a category for college selection. I’d say you’re at least a match for all of these schools. BC may be a reach. best of luck with the college (and girls) search:)

Thank you, and it isn’t lol. It would just be an added bonus, it would never make or break a selection for me.

Do you think I could consider Skidmore as a high safety, or is that more of a low match?

Write a fantastic essay, and I’d say you have a decent shot at Colgate. I really like your choices! I don’t really know what admissions anywhere is looking for, but my understanding is that LACs have fewer male applicants. I think your application has strong appeal - you play two varsity sports, and colleges know the time commitment that involves. PLUS, the orchestra and student government. You clearly were active in your high school, and would bring that to your college. Good luck!

I would recommend Kenyon, Middlebury, and Bowdoin. Maybe Colby, Trinity, Vassar, and Bates also.

^^thanks guys. Collegebound, my brother is already at Kenyon so I’ve been considering it somewhat, I highly doubt I would ever get accepted to Middlebury, even though I grew up about 5 minutes away from there in Cornwall. Bowdoin also seems unlikely due to the selectivity, I’ve also been looking at the other test-optional Maine schools because my ACT is pretty meh… Visited Vassar, wasn’t really a fan for the same reason as I don’t really want to stay in Oberlin, I haven’t looked too much into Trinity. Nice suggestions.

I think you should go for Bowdoin. I’m a Bowdoin c/o 2018 commit and I think you have a shot. It’s more selective than Middlebury but that means nothing.

Depends on your definition of selectivity. Acceptance rate isn’t the only criteria used to determine selectivity. Is Bowdoin more selective than Williams? Smaller colleges like Amherst and Bowdoin have fewer spots to fill, so they can turn away more applicants. If Bowdoin had to fill 625 spots instead of 460, it’s acceptance rate would be the same and Midd and Williams.

sorry–“its” acceptance rate, not “it’s” acceptance rate. One of my pet peeves comes back to bite me.
