@Gumbymom I’ve seen you a lot on here and you’ve been great help to everyone! I was wondering what you think my chances are?
SCU would be a Reach. Your UW GPA and test scores are below average and you are aiming for the College of Engineering. Did you apply for CS? Outstanding essays may help your chances along with your EC’s.
For the UC’s on your list, what is your UC GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Did apply for CS to the UC’s? Do you have a compelling reason for your low GPA?
@Gumbymom I applied for Computer Science and Engineering. I took many AP classes throughout my 4 years in HS. I’m currently taking 3 AP Classes (AP Stats, AP Chemistry, and AP Microeconomics), Spanish 4 Honors, and Story and Style my senior year.
I applied for Computer Engineering for the UC’s. My UC GPA is 3.42. One of my family members passed away and it was hard staying focused in school. Essay based on this and stated in extra comments section about this situation.
Like I stated above, having a good reason for your lower than average grades along with detailing the issues in your essays can help more for SCU than the UC’s.
If you did not get a supplemental from UCSB/UCD or an LOR from UCB, these again will be Reaches just due to the sheer number of applicants that apply, many which have overcome adversity and still have good grades and test scores.
UCSC is possible but the rest I think are going to be very tough. You got into SJSU so you have an excellent option.
Good Luck and prove me wrong.
@Gumbymom Thanks for the info! Fingers crossed. I know that SCU is quite competitive for business and liberal arts. How competitive is the engineering program at SCU?
SCU’s Engineering program is also competitive due to location.
My D got in Engineering…OOS…4.0 UW, 4.3 weighted, 7 AP and 1 college in the HS, ACT 30
My S got into engineering. OOS, 3,95 UW GPA, 9 APs and 34 ACT.
Any in state engineering acceptances? Do they send an email or is there an official notification date? It seems early to see these acceptances??? I keep asking S if he will check his portals=)
@alumnimom My DS got in early admissions. I don’t believe regular decision acceptances are out yet.
@phoenixmomof2 Congrats to both of them!
Son got an email saying “decisions coming soon”… Duh… how lame is that. Just announce em already
