Do I stand a chance, or should I wait for RD?

if columbia is your first choice then why not ED? You stand a good chance. HOpefully you can take those EC's and try to focus them or show you have some sense of direction in what your passions are. Scores are fine. Rank/gpa is a bit low, but I'd rather have high SAT than high GPA. Write amazing essays and you'll be very competitive.

bump...
would I really stand a chance in the ED applicant pool? Columbia's admissions statistics say that 94% were in the top 10% of their class... 6% odds don't look great for me. Then again, if freshmen year were factored out (As I believe many colleges disregard these) I would easily be in the top 3% probably under that

I think Princeton is the only Ivy that does not include freshman year in their GPA calculation. And no school is going to recalculate your GPA in such a way as to figure out where you would be ranked without freshman year.

Technically, anyone stands a chance. How big or small that chance is depends on the applicant. I would also caution you to go ahead an dassume that a big bulk of the 6% are athletic recruits, legacies, and non-reporters (schools that do not calculate rank).

You have a really good chance but if you need financial aid, then you may not go with Early Decision.
