Chances at Columbia Engineering RD?

I know a million people post these, but...any help is appreciated.
Btw, this is what I said in my applications, but not necessarily what I want to do (e.g. recently, I've given good thought on becoming a doctor).

I'm an American-born Taiwanese male, if that changes anything also.

i would say you have a great chance to go, but i know nothing about the school. i dont even know why im replying to this

Are your school's math & chess teams prestigious? Columbia SEAS looks like a reach right now with your GPA but if the leadership positions are not just fluff, you should have a good shot.

A lot of the Columbia ED's have started to post their admission decisions on this thread. Some people post their stats as well so it might give you a better idea:

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/columbia-university/423830-columbia-official-early-decision-class-2012-results-22.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/columbia-university/423830-columbia-official-early-decision-class-2012-results-22.html</a></p>

Though you have to go to like page 22 or so, because the thread was started early before decisions were out.

How good were your junior year grades? Your senior quarter grades kind of hurt you as of now. ECs are fine, I was accepted and had about the same amount as you, but I think it helps if at least one of your recs reinforced your participation in one or more of those ECs. If English really is your worst subject, that might hurt as well, because I'm sure the essay counts quite a lot in the decision process, but I'm sure that as long as you have a good topic, a teacher can probably help you refine the language somewhat.

My Junior grades were not too impressive.

Honors English (highest): B+
AP US History (highest): B
AP Statistics: A-
AP BC Calculus (highest through all 4 grades): B+
Spanish (one level down from highest): B
Physics (regular, highest at Junior level): A

are you urm by any chance?

Edit: Nevermind

hey but a lot of ppl have those things at columbia seas, right?

Eh, you did okay in Macro, not great, and you took Graph Pass/Fail.

For seas, math should be 750+ if you want a save shot

tbh grades are probably going to kill your app… we all like to pretend they are a small slice of the pie but the bottom line is they are kind of a big deal and you need an extraordinary app to offset them.

your ECs and everything else are pretty solid but no where near “extraordinary”

Folks, the OP is a sophomore in college now. Why are you continuing to post about his or her chances for admission?

‘safe shot’ I am sorry

Looks decent. I would recommend early decision. I’d try to pull some of those scores up a little!
