Your grades are awesome. Why not try ED? I think you would definitely have a good chance.

I considered ED, but finances are definately an issue.

Everybody who chances me, keep in mind that I am applying RD.

Thanks nygirl!

your grades and academic awards are really competitive, your ECs are quite academically centered which could be a disadvantage unless you portray yourself to have a broad as well as deep set of interests/abilities. the volunteer work is always good. Given the your evident strength and interest in the sciences I'd you have a very good chance, not guaranteed though, the essay sometimes keeps even people like you (in terms of academic excellence) out. if you're an international financial aid applicant, then it's all very uncertain, chances are reduced, and rd keeps them low as it is. to add to that they probably receive several Bangladeshi male applicants every year. despite the FA i would apply ed, because if they take you under the international FA programme, they'll give you a huge amount of aid, and you are absolutely allowed to turn down ed if they don't meet the right level aid. CC or seas?

haha cool. i feel like i finally got a well thought out answer. my friends arent as good at this.

I live in the United States and I am applying to CC.

I did do some random sports (football 9-10), but i dont think thats worth mentioning. My essay is all about music, so i think that will make me seem multifaceted.

Btw, i love Columbia's app. The interests section is cool and i have a great idea for the 1 essay we have to write.

if you are a us citizen/perm res, just apply ed, they'll give you all the aid you need, very very few people don't get their need met, and those who don't are allowed to decline an ed acceptance. good luck with the app and the essays, i too thought the app was pretty cool.

bump. also, what do you guys mean by "good chance?"

is it like a 15% shot, or something like that?

Don't ask someone to quantify a chance, it won't really help to play the statistical game, kids who had 99% chances are rejected and kids with 30% chances are accepted.

50% rd, 75% ed, these are vague, inaccurate and nearly meaningless - i'm no admin officer, your chances cannot be judged precisely by a post of stats and a listing of ECs.

Awesome your Bangladeshi!, I don't see much of our race around these boards=[

do you mean, your Nationality? I daresay there are many south asians floating hereabouts.

Yeah, I meant nationality.

i thought i percent would be helpful because it would help me figure out how many colleges to apply to.

For example, if it's 50% and I apply to a few more Columbia-caliber schools, all of which I would be happy at, then I have an 85+% shot at a favorable outcome.

If its 5%, which I've also heard, then I guess I'll just cross my fingers and get pumped for my state school.

Ok, statistically that analysis makes sense. In reality, because of cause and effect, if one Ivy rejects you the others are MORE likely to do so. So no, apply to a few top schools and a bunch of matches/safeties.

that makes sense. bump?

very good chance
