Feel free to recommend alternate schools to consider.
Thanks!

Berkeley - low reach to reach

You don’t want to be in Columbia if you want to major in engineering. But your stats are too low for MIT, Princeton and Stanford.

Not all of those schools offer undergraduate business. You could apply to UW-Madison as a safety-ish school.

RML, what makes you say the OP doesn’t want to attend Columbia if he or she plans to attend SEAS?

Rml: yea i figured so. I like Columbia because of the opportunities the city gives, and the city in general. Cornell however, has a stronger engineering program so I’m still deciding.

Greennblue: Thanks, I’ll look into it

Any thoughts about Cornell ED/CMU/Northwestern/Michigan?

I think you have a decent chance at Cornell SEAS. Check out the Cornell Decisions thread in the Cornell forum and you’ll see that a lot of admits to SEAS had similar stats including EC’s as you do. I suggest applying to Columbia ED because its harder to be admitted, and apply Cornell RD because you are most probably in with decent essays and recs.

^ I disagree. With the OP’s stats and resume, Columbia would most likely be out of reach for him. He should ED to Cornell, where his chances are at least somewhat decent.

Looking at naviance, our school seems to have a bad history with Columbia for some reason :/. There’s always a chance, but Cornell ED seems more appealing simply because of the chances.

Chances at Michigan/CMU? Those are also schools I really like despite their difference in size.

pbr, what I’m saying is, the OP would rather put more wager on Cornell than Columbia as Cornell has a stronger engineering and his chances of getting accepted there would be higher.

Of course i’d love to see the OP join the growing number of New Yorkers at Berkeley. I think the OP has a chance there, especially that Berkeley adcom does not discriminate Asians.
