Chances at Cornell(ED)

I an Asian Male from China. My first two years for High School was in my hometown but later I transferred to a better school in the bigger city.(These two High Schools are all the best ones.)

I plan to major ECE in college, and I get a bit puzzled cuz my college counselor suggests me do not try Cornell because i might lose this very precious chance for ED. she said that Ivy League Colleges take "activities" into account a lot(Is that so?), so she advised to apply ED for CMU or Rice or Northwestern. But thing is i really love Cornell though Cornell does not rank the highest in Graduate Engineering School.

Scores and Grades:

-AP: Cal BC(5), Physics C Mech (5), Physics C E&M (5), [somehow they send me the score report with a Cal AB(5) as well, maybe score a 5 for BC will grant me a 5 for AB? Anyway...]
-GPA: Perfect 4
-Class&School Rank: class---top 5/61(Top 8%)...school---top 25/1253(Top 2%)

School interested:(would apply one of these for ED)
-Cornell
-CMU
-Rice
-Harvey Mudd
-Northwestern

Guys, i've really puzzled these days. I can't decide which one to apply for ED. I would really appreciate your help. Thx,

Your ECs are by no means “weak.” Do not sell yourself short. You have all the components for Cornell. If that is your first choice, apply there ED for CERTAIN. The other schools are also in your reach. I would definitely use your ED card. It will help. good luck.

The college of engineering focuses more on the stats part and math/science aspects which you clearly excel in (SAT Score, class rank, AP scores). I think you have a pretty good chance early decision?

Will you apply for financial aid? Cornell is need blind for international students however not all accepted internationals (who ask for financial aid) actually receive aid.

And Carnegie Mellon, Rice, and Northwestern aren’t easier schools to get into than Cornell.

Thx a lot man. Now I will definitely apply Cornell for ED. :stuck_out_tongue: thx again.

I don’t think I dare to apply for financial aid. Nearly all my friends got rejected cuz they demand aid. So, I won’t take that chance. But I can work part-time anyway. Thx for ur typing.

As I said, Cornell is Need Blind for financial aid, meaning that they won’t consider whether you apply for financial aid or not while evaluating your application.

If you get rejected, it won’t be because you applied for financial aid. So you really have nothing to lose by applying for financial aid except possibly receiving a generous grant from Cornell.

OMG. This is awesome! Since it won’t matter, I’ll definitely try. Thx for ur info.
