Chances at Cornell Please

Hi, I am currently doing to major college research and am having a little trouble coming up with some matches/reaches that are feasible for me. Right now, I am planning to major in engineering, but that could possibly change, so I want a school with a variety of good options.

All of the math and science classes were taken at an accelerated level. I attend a separate school for all of my math and science classes. They give a grade of A+ for a 97% or above. This doesn't affect GPA at all. Due to this, I wasn't able to partake in band class freshman and sophomore years, but I still was a member, and took part in concerts and competitions.

Computers - A+/A+
Accelerated Math - A+/A+ (Trig/Geometry/Very basic calc.)

AP Statistics
Discrete Mathematics (Don't know what this class will consist of. I think it may be changed to an advanced 3d geometry class. I may change it to Analytical Chemistry)
Engineering
Anatomy and Physiology 1/2

Also, I would like to know a little about Cornell's financial aid if possible. Would I be eligible for much at all? I have done some online calculators for EFC, and they say anything from $4000-$6000.

Thanks!

My grades weren't as good as yours and I got into cornell arts and sciences. but, my standardized test scores were a bit higher.

My grades weren't as good either, with a dozen B's in a bunch of language/English lasses and 40-50 A's, and I got into CAS, but my class rank was a bit higher, 2/480 (almost got the valedictorian status, ranked 1st for three semesters, but my high school was the inner city ghetto type) My ACT scores were lower than yours too, but had a 1410/1600 SAT score.

Sorry, forgot the financial question. Academically, I'd say your chances are excellent for Cornell. How's your family's financial health? how much do your parents make? Cornell's determination of your need may differ from some online calculators (what online EFC calculators did you use?).

My parents can't contribute much to my Cornell education, so I got finaid, with a few k in grants, 10,000 or more in loans each semester, and a couple thousand in federal work-study

What year did you apply hyp86?
I'd say that the scores will need to be >1410/1600 to get into CAS nowadays. That's why I consider Cornell a Reach for me, since I only have a 1400/1600. There's no way I would get into CAS.

I would recommend that you strengthen your EC's as much as possible before applying to balance out your ACT score. Good luck :)

i'm class of '09, so i guess i applied to Cornell in 2004/2005. Jan. 10, 2005 to be exact because I remember cornell extended the commonapp deadline by 10days. That was nice of them :). I was such a big procrastinator and sent all my applications pretty much at the last minute. I was rejected/waitlisted from all the other ivies/top schools i applied. I have grown to love cornell very much.

aquamarinee, so I think you are absoulate right in that

I got lucky i guess. my SAT was probably about the average score for the class of '09.

you guys make 1400 sound so bad. you can definitely get in to cornell with 1400 and i dont think a 1400 lowers ur chance by that much.

Hahaha. A 1400 is "bad" by CC standards, where even a 1500 probably is "average" ;) Cornell probably wouldn't consider me too intelligent compared to everyone else, since my SAT scores really are not that great. Especially for CAS xD I might apply to CALS instead...

hahahaha. Maybe you can get in. Does that help your insecurities?

lol the average verbal is 700 and math 720 in cornell i believe so add that together its 1420. (how the hell did i get 570 on verbal hahaha)

Thank you, but not really. LOL :)
I shall be brave and still apply though!

I think maybe you will get in. Maybe you will not get in.
