Chances at Cornell with Horrible SAT, I'll chance back immediately!!!!

Okay so I have absolutely no idea how this could happen, but I took 2 SAT IIs in December (Math 1, Lit) and my scores are absolutely horrendous.

Math 1 (retake): 630
Lit: 610

I had wanted to improve my Math score so I could send it with USH instead of 2 histories, but my score dropped 60 points. I took Lit because I thought it would be easy since English is my strongest subject, but apparently not..

A lot of my schools are REALLY selective, so these scores are especially embarrassing. I know there's score choice, but some schools, like Cornell, don't accept it. Will this decrease my chances at those schools? My SAT I was okay, a 2250 (740CR 710M 800W), but how much will these new ones hurt me?

Here are some other stats for context:
SATIIs (before these): USH 760 World 720 Math1 690
AP: World Hist - 5, Psych - 5, US History - 5, Eng Lit - 4
Pending/Current (all Aps): Calc, Spanish, Environmental Science, American Gov, English
GPA: 4.19 W 3.97 UW
Rank: Top 2% 14/600

ECs: average/low-ish :/
many school awards
and a couple of national awards (for academics, like being recognized for the National Achievement Scholarship-PSAT).
I'm in a few of the National Honor Socities,
Model UN, school newspaper, volunteered with health department and coordinated outreach and stuff, etc.
I'm the president of one club

Essays: Probably good, I write well
Recs: 1 average, 1 outstanding
"Hooks": URM (African-American), 1st Generation to go to college, Female? :P

These are schools I'm looking at:
U of Chicago
Cornell
Dartmouth
Amherst
Wesleyan
Oberlin
Bryn Mawr
William and Mary
Virginia Tech
Drexel
Hofstra

All but Cornell (and maybe Tech?) use score choice, but Cornell was one of my top choices

Thanks in advance guys, and don't forget to leave a link if you want me to chance you

Your SAT I and GPA should make up for bad subject test scores.

U Chicago: High match (write stellar essays and this status will be confirmed)
Cornell: Reach
Dartmouth: Reach
Amherst: Reach
Wesleyan: Reach
Oberlin: Match
Bryn Mawr: Match (maybe low match if score choice is in effect)
William and Mary: Match
VA Tech: Safety
Drexel: Safety
Hofstra: Safety

You can get into better safeties than Drexel or Hofstra… Villanova or Fordham.

Bryn Mawr does allow score choice. They also have the option to submit 2 AP scores instead of SAT Subject Tests, which I’m probably going to do (my 5s in AP US and Psych, which is my major). Cornell is the only school that wants all tests, and now I’m regretting taking more because the 760, 720, and 690 look a lot better in comparison now :frowning:
I just didn’t think that I could do so badly…

Drexel: Safety
Hofstra: Saftey
V Tech: Safety
Oberlin: Low Match
Weseleyan: Match
Bryn Mawr: low match
Amherst: High Match
Dartmouth: Reach(high match if applying ed)
Cornell: High Match
U Chicago: same with dartmouth

IMO, you have a great chance at most of those colleges. However, your strategy in choosing subject tests was very poor. You picked the two hardest tests (Math I and English Lit). You should have done Math II and one of the sciences like Physics.

Chance me back!

I think everything below Oberlin you have a really good chance. Above that though, those subject tests may come to haunt you. But, you still have a high SAT score, good rank/gpa, and hooks like URM and 1st gen can’t hurt.

U of Chicago - High Match / Low Reach
Cornell - High Match / Low Reach
Dartmouth - High Match / Low Reach
Amherst - High Match
Wesleyan - Low Match / Match
Oberlin - not sure
Bryn Mawr - not sure, but I would say low match/match
William and Mary - Safety
Virginia Tech - Safety
Drexel - Safety
Hofstra - Safety

Don’t worry about the two low subject tests, because you have other good ones! My friend (white, 2150 SATs, 3.8 GPA) got into Wesleyan so i wouldn’t worry too much about that. The fact that all your stats are higher in every category pretty much will put you in. Also from my experience with Amherst, they LOVE diversity, I have two friends (both black) that got in with 2000 SATs, good GPAs and good ECs but nothing else that stands out (like recruited athlete). As for Cornell, Amherst, Uchicago and Dartmouth, I’m sure you’ll get into at least one of those.

Thanks for the chances! I just found out that the ONLY school that I have to send all scores to is Cornell, so all of the other ones will only get:

2250 SAT I
720 World H and 760 US Subject Tests

I don’t love the World score but I guess its better in comparison… I know a girl who got into Cornell with a 630 in Lit (granted, she was a legacy…) and otherwise good stats, so I’m hoping it won’t totally kill me.

and econ, I actually thought these would be the easier ones. I didn’t study for Math 1 when I first took it so I thought the score could only get better, and the practice tests for lit were really similar to the Critical reading of the SAT, which I did okay on…

your SATs and GPA are really good, and if you have a 760 and a 720 besides your math and lit scores, i’m sure you’ll be fine. your URM and first gen status helps a lot too, it’ll help offset any iffy scores. cornell is kind of half luck if you have decent stats, really.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1433058-my-sats-gpa-dont-match-chance-me.html

bump did all chances!

You are a 1st gen/ African-American girl with a 2250 and solid SATII. Your gpa is almost perfect. You are probably one of the most competitive students out there.

William and Mary - Low-match
Virginia Tech - low match
Drexel - Safety
Hofstra - Super Safety
Dartmouth - High Match
Amherst - Match
Wesleyan - Match
Oberlin - Safety
Bryn Mawr - Safety
Cornell-Match
U Chicago- High Match

As you can see, none of these schools are actually reach/high reach for you. If I were you, I would have aimed higher.

honestly i don’t think that you’ll have too much difficulty getting in anywhere, but as i’m sure you’ve heard before, college is kind of a crapshoot. you have decent extra-curriculars, solid sat i scores, and your gpa/class rank are good. though i can’t claim to know whether anything’s a match or reach for you, i’d be genuinely surprised if you didn’t get accepted from your top choices, your sat ii scores notwithstanding.

@Loncria
Thanks! My major worry (besides the new Subject Tests) is my ECs. I never really knew how important they would be at the top schools until my Junior year, and it pretty hard to be involved frosh years b/c they’re at a separate campus… I hope the other things make up for that though :(
