Hi guys,
I’m a little bit worried about my chances at the schools I applied too. Im applying for biology at all of these schools which is impacted. I dont know if its just me getting or anxious or not, but can someone help me gauge my chances at these schools with my stats?
Cal Poly SLO
Cal Poly Pomona
San Jose State
Sonoma State
UC Davis
UC Irvine
UC Riverside
UC Santa Cruz
Stats: 3.48 GPA, 1550 SAT, 710 Math II Subject Test
Are any of these reaches? Do I have a good chance at some of these schools? Help!!!
Anything would help a stressed out senior at the moment
Is your 3.48 GPA, your CSU/UC capped weighted GPA? All schools except SLO uses 10-11th grades for their GPA calculation. SLO uses 9-11th grades. Here is the calculator for both CSU/UC GPA calculations. For SLO just add in the 9th grades.

For CSU’s, a lower GPA can be compensated by a higher SAT score. SLO will be your toughest admit with a low Biology acceptance rate.
SLO’s Freshman profile shows your GPA well below the average of 4.18 but your SAT is above the average of 1420.
For the UC’s, they tend to be GPA focused so do you have extenuating circumstances leading to a lower than average GPA. If so, was this addressed in your personal insight essays?
Irvine and Davis will be tough admits for Biology. Your GPA again puts you well below the averages for these campuses although your SAT is above the averages. Some UC statistical data below and not major specific:
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79:
UCB: 1.8%
UCLA: 2.2%
UCSD: 7.2%
UCSB: 10.1%
UCI: 11.1%
UCD: 16.6%
UCSC: 43.8%
UCR: 63.3%
UCM: 88.7%
2018 UC capped weighted GPA averages:
UCB: 4.23
UCLA: 4.23
UCSD: 4.16
UCSB: 4.13
UCI: 4.13
UCD: 4.11
UCSC: 3.96
UCR: 3.81
UCM: 3.71
2018 Data:
25th - 75th percentiles for SAT:
UCB: 1360-1540
UCLA: 1340-1540
UCSD: 1300-1520
UCSB: 1270-1500
UCD: 1220-1480
UCI: 1230-1490
UCSC: 1210-1450
UCR: 1130-1380
UCM: 1020-1280
So SLO, UC Irvine and Davis will be your Reach schools.
UC Santa Cruz a High Match (50:50)
UC Riverside a Match school along with Cal Poly Pomona.
SJSU and Sonoma State will be Low Match/Safety schools.
Best of luck and as long as you are happy attending SJSU and Sonoma State, you should be fine.
