I'm currently a Senior in high school but I did rather bad my junior and got multiple D's and my current Sophmore/Junior GPA is a 2.6 (Sophomore year 3.5, 3.1 Junior Year 1.6, 2.3). My ACT Composite with Writing is 28 and I'm planning to take the SAT IIs in November. Will I need to make up those D's (I finished all required classes with C's or better though)? I was wondering what my chances were for CSU Long Beach and maybe Cal Poly, or even UC Merced/Riverside (even though I don't meet eligibility). I am a California resident (Bay Area) and hope to be a Psychology/Pre-Med Major.

Extracurriculars include:
Boy Scouts (Working on Eagle)
Key Club
Robotics Club
Marching Band

I am also working part time/interning at a Software Engineering company. (Wave Systems Corp.)

Do I have a chance at getting in?
Thanks in advance.

I presume you are aiming for some field of engineering as your major?

With your current credentials, Cal Poly will not be a realistic choice given its competitive entry requirements. For fall 2010, Cal Poly is the 3rd most selective California public university. It trailed only Cal and UCLA in selectivity, and ahead of all remaining UCs (UCSD included). According to general consensus, CP is of similar academic standing as UCD, UCSB, UCI, and ahead of UCR, UCSC, Merced. For Cal Poly engineering, average entry GPA 4.03, and ACT 31.

I am not too familiar with CSULB, but I am sure it is less selective than Cal Poly. I would encourage you to strengthen your SAT/ACT score and push for Long Beach.

Perhaps others can comment on your chance for CSULB.

The problem is that the OP lives in the Bay Area and CSULB is an impacted CSU which means that out of service area applicants have to have really outstanding credentials to have a serious chance of being admitted. A GPA of 2.6 is just too low for an out of service area applicant to have any chance of acceptance at CSULB.

Ick, didn’t you read and comprehend the OP’s post? Doesn’t really seem it.

I hate to be blunt VietPho, but you will not gain entry into CalPoly or CSULB as an incoming freshman. Your best bet for a bay area CSU that has a good psyche/pre-med/bio program is CSUEB. CSUEB is actually a very good school and in many ways better administered and more student friendly than SJSU or SFSU.
You may not even be ready for state and most likely would be better off attending a CCC first.

“Given the number of CSU campuses that are now impacted, it is beneficial to provide a comprehensive table ofeach local admission area for first-time freshmen as well as for upper-division transfer students in which the statewide admission criteria apply or describe how the statewide admission criteria are utilized on those campuses that are fully impacted at the program level. The impaction of any program will result in the use of supplemental admission criteria for all applicants to that program regardless ofthe local area. Geographical boundaries are used in categorizing the local admission area for all public, private, charter, and parochial schools.
Under campus impaction for first-time freshmen and transfers, supplemental admission criteria will be utilized for those applicants who complete their high school preparation or their transferable coilege work at institutions outside these designated local admission areas. Impaction plans are requested and submitted annually and apply to the next year’s admission cycle. Specific school districts that form the local admission area for a campus must be defined in each impaction request whether the request is seeking to renew the current local admission area or to modift it in any way. The attached table will be updated and released annually after the impaction requests are reviewed and approved.
In order to differentiate the geographic areas for local admission from the service areas for school-college relations and outreach, the attached table includes this information as well”

“CSU campuses must accommodate all qualified applicants from their designated local
service area who apply during the priority application period (October 1 through
November 30) and who meet all other requirements and deadlines
• Exempt from this CSU policy are fully impacted campuses (whose every academic program is impacted), which are not required to accommodate local service areas. Currently Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and San Diego State are the only fully impacted campuses. (1/28/10)”
