I applied to :
Cuny- baruch / hunter/ qcc
Suny- Binghamton/ stony / ualbany / ubuff
Northeastern Universty
Syracuse University
Hofstra University
St. Johns University

Anyone know what my chances are for any of those schools? hopefully i can get into any one of them except for hunter/qcc =[. Thanks

/bump =( som1 help me out plz!!

I'd say slim chance for baruch and hunter-- don't forget that their acceptance rates are very low (around 30-35%). Binghamton- next to no chance, albany slim chance but it's possible, ubuff- slim chance but again, like albany, there's a possibility (maybe if you show alot of interest --make sure to call the school etc). Northeastern, huge reach-- definitely wouldn't count on it . Syracuse huge reach. Hofstra- it's attainable but it's going to be tough with that GPA. St. John's- a stronger possibility than the other schools on the list, but if I were to place a percentage on your chances here, I'd say 50%.

All in all, your chances don't look too hot for these schools-- your GPA is your huge downfall. You do mention, however, that there is an explanation for your GPA--if it's a severe situation, it could help to offset the grades a little bit but its very difficult to simply overlook a 63 average.

To add a further comment, I would like to say that I am very pleased to see a "normal" student on here for a change. It really is a breath of fresh air after seeing nobel prize winners with perfect SAT scores freaking out over harvard. I wish you the best of luck, and don't forget-- if you ever end up at a CC it usually ends up being a blessing in diguise. Study hard, get a great GPA and transfer to a school of your choice.

I'll put it this way. My d's stats were quite a bit higher than yours. She had an 89 average and around 1050 on her SAT's. I had her apply to SUNY Delhi (2 year technical college) as an absolute safety, as I wasn't fully confident she'd get into a 4 year SUNY. (she did, and she is now attending Cortland)
So though I am not going to say you will not get into any 4 year CUNY/SUNY school, I really hope you applied to a community college as a safety.

what should i say when i call the school?

My friend had a 1340/2400 SAT and she got in St. Johns, her average was in the low 80s. I think you'd have a shot at that school and also some of the CUNY's - even thought there's many competition. Even if you end up going to a CC, you can always transfer! But I doubt that you won't get into anything though.

I just noticed that you did apply to a community college- ( QCC-Queens community college??) didn't notice it at first. so I think you should be ok. My advice- is to sit tight as you will be getting your admission decisions soon.
If you do find yourself at QCC, just work hard- get as much out of it as posssible and try to get good grades. At the end of the 2 years, I'm sure you will be able to transfer into a very fine school--
Good luck

does not applying to financial aid or dorm help at all? and what should i say when i call? Thanks

yeah i applied to queens community college , i am planning to do well the first two years of college, hopefully i can do that in baruch or st.johns. Others i doubt i will be accepted into.

/bump =[ can anyone please help a poor kid out =(. I really hope i dont have to go to qcc, thats my last resort. I hope i can get into stjohns and i know i will do well. Anyone know what i shoudl say if i call St. Johns ?

HM, i know someone that was rejected by queens college, Baruch, but got into St.Johns, i think you should be able to get into baruch, at least your junior and senior year averages are St.John level, maybe they can understand your freshmen problem

/bump ! help guys ! anyone think i have a chance for St.johns? my school sends a lot of people to st.johns but because in freshmen year i had a 48 avg because of cutting im afraid i dont have a chance. Anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to show interest in st.johns? advices please !! thanksss a load

I think you need at least an average of low 80s to get into st johns. But anything might happen. I'm quite surprised at the 48 average actually..
