George Washington - match
Georgetown - reach
American - match
Johns Hopkins - reach
SOAS, London (if you've heard of it) -haven't heard of
St. Andrews - You did a summer internnship there but I don't know.

I don't know if this matters but I'm caucasian, middle class, public school, from the South, and I have some relatives in IR fields in D.C.

Pike, how is GW a reach for him?

typo (now corrected)

Anybody else?

in at GW and American. Georgetown and JHU may be slight reaches.

Ok thanks for the input

**bump*

can anybody think of any other similar match schools?

Georgetown is getting increasingly selective...you will def. get into American, probably GWU.

For the record, Hopkins has an OUTSTANDING graduate program in IR, but is lackluster undergrad, from what I've heard. Other great IR schools on the East coast are Princeton and Tufts.

Do you want to go to a DC area school for IR specifically due to location?? If so, it isn't so easy to get to DC from JHU but if you have a car it isn't hard at all. Gtown, GWU, and American are all in the city.

If it is any help here are the political science rankings as done by the NRC. Now remember this is political science which is different than IR but it might be helpfull. http://www.jajnsn.com/vanguarduniversities/politicalsci.html

JHU is ranked 21st, another DC area school in UMD is at 29, Gtown is at 37(remember this is politcal science, Gtown i assume would be higher in IR), GWU tied at 47 and american is tied at 59.

Now i think JHU and Gtown are amazingly hard to get into and really that SAT score might need to be higher unless you are legacy at Gtown. Look at some of the stats of denied students. It is crazy. Now if you want to be in the DC area UMD is a possibility but you might want to look outside the DC area. I don't know of any international relation rankings but going by those political science rankings Cornell, Wisconsin, UNC, Texas, and IU seem like possible matches with UNC and TExas OOS being harder. I am sure someone can tell you of better IR places because I don't know much about international relation rankings. All I can suggest is trying to raise that SAT score. Good luck.
