chances at Dartmouth/Emory/Johns Hopkins

I'm planning on applying to Emory, Johns Hopkins, and Dartmouth and pursuing pre-med and think I have a fair chance at making it into at least one of them. while I only have 3 main ec activities, I am really worried about the role my class rank will play. Since I have taken the hardest classes out of anyone at our school (11 APs by the end of this year and planning on taking the AP Spanish exam too), my rank is 56th out of 450 (around 12%).
Overall GPA: 3.8 (weighted)

AP Literature

Once again, I only have 3 main extracurricular activities/hobbies, but I believe the dedication I have shown for each one makes up for people with ten pointless clubs (National Honors,Beta Club, French Club, French Honors society, etc):

Music (Instrumental): 9th grade band (French horn and trumpet), taught myself electric/acoustic guitar/electric bass/keyboard, formed a band (Annex), direct study on guitar skills junior year where I taught four students how to play guitar in addition to expanding my playing skills, led and taught a TAG (Talented and Gifted) seminar spring semester of junior year to freshmen students wishing to learn how to play guitar. Senior year, direct study on AP Music Theory (year-long course)

Other Club/Activity (Boy Scouts):
Freshman: attended week-long summer camp, served as a patrol counselor at a week-long Greenbar course, served as a patrol leader for Troop 629, obtained the rank of Star Scout

Sophomore: attended week-long summer camp, served as a patrol counselor at a week-long Greenbar course (Atlanta Area Council), served as a patrol counselor at a week-long greenbar course (Northeast Georgia Council), attended a week-long National Junior Leader Instructor Camp (NJLIC) in Cimarron, New Mexico, obtained the rank of Life Scout, served as a patrol leader (Troop 629),

Junior: served as a central quartermaster at a week-long National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) course, backpacked for 14 days at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico, served as patrol leader (Troop 629) for the fall/winter term, served as an Assistant Senior Patrol Leader for spring term

Senior year: About to get Eagle Scout (can't put on applications yet, of course)

Those are my two main passions/hobbies, but I have also been on the Cross-country and Track teams for all four years, though I did not make varsity until this year.

SAT:
1st time (old): 790 math, 680 Verbal
2nd time (new, I messed up and am retaking): 640 math, 670 verbal, 620 Writing

Oh yeah, I'm hispanic. Not sure if that will help me any. Will I still make into any of the three schools I listed even though my class rank is not phenomenal?

Just try to get into the top 10% if you can...that will be a big boost. As is:

Emory: Match
JHU: Slight Reach
Dartmouth: Reach

If you're truly Hispanic, then you're in.

yea, i'm 100% colombian, and while I did not make national merit, I got a 210, which should make me a national hispanic scholar. not sure if colleges will look this much in debt, but my Eagle Scout project was to lead and teach several computer skills classes for Spanish-speaking parents.

is dartmouth that much of a reach?

Its a solid reach, but you have a shot for sure. Its a much bigger reach than Emory.

Solid reach, yes. But your EC's seem good; just boost those scores.

ps: why did you take AP Physics B twice?

whoops, I meant to put AP physics C, which is what I am taking this year (senior). anyone else have any suggestions/comments?

You definitly have a chance at all the colleges. Dartmouth is a reach because it is a reach for just about everyone. By the way, how did you like Philmont I was never able to go, sadly. Also, I am putting on my app that I am an eagle canidate, meaning i am almost eagle but not quite(bah...personal manegement).

You need economics to graduate?? ...strange :)

philmont kicked ass, too bad that it rained a record amount last year (one troop lost 90% of their gear :( ). we did a 90 mile trek but still had a lot of fun doing the random activities like burro racing. if you wanna lose weight it's really good haha. I lost 25 pounds and still am 150. one of my friends did that "eagle candidate" thing too, so if I don't finish in time I may put that too hah (darn e prep+pers. management).

anyone more suggestions/ comments? anyone know what my chances are for getting into the emory scholar program?

would i have a better chance at dartmouth or emory scholars?

bumpity bump bump :)

Emory scholars weighs heavily on the numbers so while you may get into Emory you will not make emory scholars as there are thousands who are applying and only 150 scholarships available.

Dartmouth is still going to be a reach for you even as a hispanic URM (students of puerto rican and mexican american descent get a bigger tip factor) because more and more URMs are applying making the pool more competitive. In addtion those thatare applying are stepping up as far as grades, scores and ECs.
