Chances at Dartmouth, UCs, NYU, interesting GPA situation - Will chance back!

<p>Hi guys!</p>

<p>-ACT: 34
-SAT II: USH 770, Lit and Math II in Oct and hoping for 750+
-GPA: 3.85 UW/4.1 W
-AP Scores: 5, 5, 4, 4, 3
-Senior year load: 5 APs - Calc AB, Physics, Econ, English, Psych
-Major awards: Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Silver Key, AP Scholar with Distinction</p>

<p>-Sports: Varsity swimmer (4 years), State qualifier (team won state 1st time in school history)
-Clubs: NHS (President), Photography Club (Secretary)
-Job/Work: Marketing position at firm during the school year, swim coach
-Volunteer: Humane Society, library, church
-Summer Activities: Interned at the Red Cross this summer and worked; interned at a research lab last summer
-Essays/Rec: Hope they turn out well!</p>

<p>-Very competitive public school in CA (crazy, feeds 25+ to Berkeley, and many to Ivies)
-Ethnicity: Asian
-Income: upper middle class.
-Intended major: Economics, business (maybe public health or policy)</p>

<p>In sophomore year I got C+s both semesters in Chem Honors, ouch I know. Hence my lower UC GPA. Better though, this junior year I stepped it up and managed a 4.0. </p>

<p>Part of what I'm wondering is whether anyone has any experience with how these schools might react over the C+. I'm not sure which schools will really look past numbers, especially the UCs.</p>

<p>I'm wondering my chances at schools like:
-Dartmouth
-Georgetown
-U Mich - Ann Arbor (Ross)
-NYU (Stern)
-Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD
-George Washington U
-Boston College
-Occidental </p>

<p>With my lower GPA and black mark on my record, I'm very nervous with even my safeties.</p>

<p>Thank you guys, and I'm very open to suggestions of other schools and advice on anything.</p>

<p>Please leave a link so I can chance back!</p>

<p>Overall, the Cs are not good, but your GPA is still fine.
Dartmouth: reach
Georgetown: low reach
UMich: low match
NYU: match
Berkeley: match (possibly a slightly high match)
UCLA: low match
UCSD: low match
GWU: match
Boston C: match
Occidental: match</p>

<p>Your ACT is great and your GPA is decent for SOME of the schools you mentioned! You have good volunteer work and your the great in swimming! Overall, you have a great shot for all these schools.</p>

<p>Dartmouth-Low Reach
-Georgetown-Low Reach
-U Mich - Ann Arbor (Ross)-Match
-NYU (Stern)-Low Match
-Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD-Low Match
-George Washington U-High Match
-Boston College-High Match</p>

<p>-Dartmouth: reach
-Georgetown: reach
-U Mich - Ann Arbor: match
-NYU (Stern): match
-Berkeley: high match
-UCLA: match/high match
-UCSD: match
-George Washington: match
-Boston College: match
-Occidental: match</p>

<p>I’m not sure about the C’s, but it’s a good sign that you stepped it up in junior year. Colleges always like to see improvement.
And since you’re going into economics/business, math is really important, while Chemistry probably isn’t as important.</p>

<p>-Dartmouth: Reach
-Georgetown: Reach, possibly low reach
-U Mich - Ann Arbor (Ross): Match
-NYU (Stern): Low match
-Berkeley: High match
-UCLA: High match
-UCSD: High Match (UCs are getting very competitive these years)
-George Washington U: Match
-Boston College: High Match
-Occidental: Low Match</p>

<p>[Chance</a> back please :)](<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1540120-please-chance-penn-ucs-nyu-dartmouth-etc-ill-chance-back.html]Chance”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1540120-please-chance-penn-ucs-nyu-dartmouth-etc-ill-chance-back.html)</p>

<p>-Dartmouth: reach

-U Mich - Ann Arbor: match
-NYU (Stern): match
-Berkeley: match
-UCLA: match
-UCSD: match
-Boston College: match
-George Washington: safety
-Occidental: safety</p>

<p>Any chance for being a swim recruit?</p>

<p>Putting aside the likelihood of you being recruited for swimming, I think you’re well rounded enough that you could potentially get into all of these schools.</p>

<p>The C’s shouldn’t be too much of a problem since you had a awesome comeback junior year. That being said, I have heard that the higher UC’s (Berkeley, LA) are very numbers-based and not as holistic as they like to make themselves out to be, so getting into both of those schools may be an issue. </p>

<p>However, I think Ross and Stern are both attainable, you should get into one of them as long as your essays are decently up to par. Georgetown and Dartmouth are reaches for anyone, but I think you’re pretty solid for Gtown and Dartmouth is a possibility forsure :)</p>

<p>Dartmouth - reach
Georgetown - high match
Umich - high match
NYU Stern - reach (do people above know how hard Stern is to get into?)
Berkeley -match
UCLA - low match
UCSD - safety
Boston College - high match
GWU - low match
Occidental - low match</p>

<p>Dartmouth: reach
Georgetown: low reach
NYU: reach (Stern is so hard. It’s like ranked 9th for business schools. You’re gonna have a lot of competition)
GWU: match
Boston C: match/ low reach
I really don’t know that much about the rest of the schools</p>

<p>Dartmouth: mid reach
Georgetown: low reach / high match
UMich-Ross: high match
NYU-Stern: low reach
Berkeley: low reach (but judging on your school’s rate of acceptance to Berkeley, maybe a high match!)
UCLA: high match
UCSD: mid match
GWU: mid match
BC: high match
Occidental: mid match</p>

<p>Good luck!</p>

<p>Chance back? :stuck_out_tongue:

<p>Good variety of schools! I think you’ll be competitive for all of them, although Dartmouth’s going to be pretty hard. You didn’t mention your junior year classes, but if you took AP Chem and scored really well in the class and the AP test, it would make up for the C+ in Honors Chem. However, if I got a C+ in Honors Chem, I probably wouldn’t take AP Chem…so maybe you didn’t take AP Chem. In that case, just hope the admissions officers notice your achievements in other classes (since Chem doesn’t have anything to do with Econ or Business).</p>

<p>Your test scores are done, just done. You’re not stellar, but you wouldn’t be stellar with a 36 when applying to Ivies, so don’t worry about it. Once you get into the 33-36 range, they see those scores as the same. Your GPA is actually a little lacking, just every so slightly, but it doesn’t put you out of the running. Your test score makes up for your GPA. However, you should explain those C’s in Chem Honors. Very few amounts of EC’s will make up for a C. Also, you should try to take more than 3 SAT subject tests and do well on them. Most people just take three, so it’d look awesome if you’d go above the norm to take 4 or more.</p>

<p>Could you chance me please? </p>

<p>With a 9-10% acceptance rate Dartmouth is a reach for anyone regardless of how outstanding one looks on paper.</p>
