Chances at Dartmouth, Middlebury?

Question: how much is the slip junior year going to hurt me? I have low grades in calc BC and English. Will I get any reprieve for taking calc BC as a junior or not? Don't know how well I did on the AP.

Your junior year grade slip will definitely be noticeable to the admissions committes at Dartmouth and Middlebury.

Unfortunately, you will not be pardoned for taking Calc BC as a junior. The admissions comitte will assume that you should be able to handle the course if you are enrolled in it. After all, not just anyone is placed in such a math course. If there are any special circumstances for your grade dip, make sure that your guidance counselor includes them in her reccomendation letters.

Your SATs are solid and so are your ECs. It seems that you like Dmouth slightly more than Midd. So I would reccomend that you apply to Dmouth ED I and Midd ED II if you don't get into Dmouth. Middlebury will especially like your founding of the German Club. Midd. is very renouned in the languages.

Yeah, thanks, that about confirms what I've been thinking. I was planning on Dartmouth ED. I look to study international relations/foreign languages, so that is a big attraction of Middlebury. I don't have a great reason for the junior year drop - just overwhelmed, which I'm guessing is pretty much the kiss of death. Also, forgot to mention that I take German outside of my regular high school as well, at a German language school Saturday mornings. It's been a really great experience, how would I mention this on the application? Just work it into essays?

My junior UW grade was 3.65 (with 5 APs), dropped from 4.0 UW sophmore year. Although our transcripts only show the weighted, the number of Bs was pretty obvious, including a B in honors English, and B+ in BC calc.

But that wasn't the end of it because I still got into UPenn, Cornell, Hopkins, and others.
