Hello,

Miscellanous
Random credits from Local community college- junior year and 2 CVCC classes this year

College Major/Career Aspirations:
•I have always wanted to enter the medical field and have had an interest in memory and the brain specifically
•I wish to major in one or two of the following: cognitive science, neuroscience, biology, psychology, and even political science
•I am extremely interested in going to medical school and want to be an neursurgeon

Extra :

-I moved to New Jersey from India when I was 6 years old and learned English in that summer. I finally switched to “regular” English from the foreign English classes in the 5th grade.

-Of the three B’s I’ve received in high school, two were in freshman year and the other was in Pre-AP Spanish. I do not feel as though learning Spanish is crucial in my education because I am already bilingual and will re-learn Spanish in college, so I decided not to take AP Spanish.

Essays (not done but ideas)
-Commonapp one about my life from India to NJ to VA (so different and learning english and diversity and how i'm still inexperienced about life)
other essays for supplements are pretty interesting, unique. so overall pretty good but not ridiculous

Reccomendations (same for all
Guidance counselor: i think really really good, he just started last year but likes me a lot and talks about how im gonna br really successful
AP English teacher: really really good b/c i basically write rec FOR her since i have to answer lots of questions about myself and hand to her
CVGS Biology teacher: also really good (has lots of connections all over)

Sorry for the long message but what are my chances at UVA? and any chance of Echols scholar?
The other colleges are:
Duke University
University of Chicago
Wake Forest
William and Mary
Virginia Tech

bump? (10 char)

Well, ur subject test might be alittle low for Duke and Chicago (but ur SAT and school related information seem great!) Ur EC, Honor/awards, and others seem impressive. Did you take any APs or AP classes? That can make some contributions.
Duke- reach
U Chicago- reach (this university is known for being quite capricious, so it's hard to tell. Mostly depends on ur essays and recommendations so I'll just say its a reach)
Wake Forest- low match
William and Marry- low match-safety
Virginia Tech- Safety
UVA- match to high match

Thanks for chancing me!

I think UVA is a match. I don't know much about Wake Forest....William and Mary and Virginia Tech are no problem. Duke and U Chicago are reaches...I'd say probably not for either, though your chances are likely better at Duke than U Chicago.

Good luck!

Citybirds27, your chances for UVA, VT, W & M and Wake Forest are all excellent. Duke and UChicago are reaches, but very doable. Much good luck!

To CH4: Yeah if it says I got AP Scholar with Honor
i took Psychology (5) English Language (4) Us History (4) Euro (5). taking environmental science and stats this year.

ok thanks guys for the input thats what I thought.. still wanna try for chicago and duke though haha

UVirginia/VaTech- Safety
W&M/Wake Forest/Chicago-match
Duke- low reach (just b/c of amt of applicants)

I disagree with CH4... ur SAT's meets Duke's standards and u have a 3.9 GPA... as long as u have EC's period (which u do) ur in. Don't forget their are a lot people that apply with lower GPAs and SATs. This is 4 chicago 2...idk much bout the rest

^I disagree. Duke is a highly competitive school, and I wouldn't forget that there ARE a lot of people that apply with just as good or better GPAs and SATs. I'm not saying this to discourage; you seem like a very solid applicant. I'm only saying that JJac's post may not be entirely accurate.

These days, Duke is about the same level of reach as many of the Ivies, which means that it's a reach for everyone. You're in the zone though, and it's very reasonable for you to apply. I assume that you'll be considered instate for the Virginia schools? If so, it's hard to imagine that you wouldn't get into all of them, although UVa is tougher than it used to be.

thanks for the chance! I was going to ask about your AP exams, but it seems like you've done a good job on those, and yeah, you have solid stats.

In at UVA and definitely VT. I would say in at W&M too

Chicago would be a match

Duke would be a very low reach. My friend just got in though, and she looks about as good as you. So many people apply to duke though, and it's not a joke to get in. But I think you definitely have a shot

Everything but Duke and UChicago - You should get in in all reality

Duke - Low to Mid Reach
UChicago - I'm guessing Mid reach

Umm...Duke is more selective than Chicago.

for those of you who know about the specific colleges.. do u know if I have a shot at scholarships/honors colleges there? I want to try to get Echols scholar at UVA.
