I'm a sophomore in high school in Arizona and I'm really interested in Duke. Can anyone give me their opinions on whether or not I have a chance of getting in? Here are my stats:

Also, being a white female, do you think I have an advantage by applying to the engineering program?
And I have legacy from my dad, uncle, and aunt.
And, I'd be applying Early Decision.

Any input is appreciated! Thanks

bump. seriously, nothing?

if u raise your sat score i think you have a decent shot with your triple legacy / ED.

Your ec's seem mediocre, i don't think it will help nor hurt you. You are only a Soph., so as you will accumulate more awards and honors as you progress through high school. You seem to be on the right track.

bummmmmmmp

Don't obsess over college this early.

But, from where you right now(assuming you stay on the same path) I say you have a decent shot. And, yes, being a female going into engineering will help you. You do need to raise your SATs. My friend just got waitlisted from Duke and he had a 1590 SAT, loads of ECs and service. Be careful how many times you take the SATs too since you are already taking them as a sophomore. Colleges say it doesn't matter how many times you take them, but if you were to take them say 6 more times between now and when you submit your application, having taken the SATs 6 or 7 times may partially negate the benefits of a higher score.

I got accepted into Trinity a few days ago as an Asian male from regular decision, and I can tell you that you're doing much better than I was my sophomore year!

I ended my sophomore year with no extracurriculars except for church attendance, without being ranked in the top 10, and when I took the SAT that summer, I got a 1900. But I applied with a 2130 SAT score, 2 SATIIs of 740s, 4-5 leadership positions, and a rank of 7/350.

You're well on track for getting in. You seem to have great commitment to your extracurriculars, but if I were you, I would get some more leadership positions (preferrably president/chair positions). When you actually apply, they don't ask you the total amount of time you spend though, they ask you what years, hours per week, and weeks per year, and leadership positions. This system can be manipulated to make it look like you do more work than you actually did. I would also get close to some teachers for great recommendations (that's what I think got me in) and write some banging essays.

Yeah, I'm trying to get more leadership positions. I'm going to run for some in National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. And I'm joining the math club and the science bowl club next year. But, those clubs only have one competition a year, so its going to be hard to win awards, which is one of my weak spots now. Any advice on good ways to win awards without having to join random clubs that make me look scattered?

bump please!

well, you need to continue to maintain good grades, preferably straight A's, and are you in the Girl Scouts, because being a Girl Scout and receiving your gold award will tremendously help. And i suggest doing Habitat for Humanity over the next couple of summers...it will look really good, trust me. And you need to take at least 3 ap classes your Junior year if not more, i suggest ap environmental science, ap us history, and ap english 11..then take 4 ap's your senior year, and more if you can. and try to participate in sports too, letter in a couple sports as an upperclassmen if you can.

bump. any more input?
