Chances at Emory ED!

Hi I am a Senior and was wondering about my chances at Emory ED.
I am going to visit the school soon.

Rank: 161 out of 531
GPA 3.61
SAT: 1350 Math:700 Verbal: 650
8 AP Classes: English Language: 3 Chemistry 3 US History 3

Orchestra 4 years Region Orchestra
AP Scholar
NHS
Youth Group Leader
2000+ Community Service Hours
Work Experience: Pediatrician's Assistant

Although the ED acceptance rate is high, both your SAT scores and transcript are well below average based upon stats only. For example, you are not even close to being in the top 10% of your class and Emory posts 90 % of admitted students are in this decile. Any chance in retaking your SAT and applying ED II?`

Yeah I am going to retake the SAT and going to apply ED II. Will applyign to ED II make a difference?

I do not believe that there is a difference between the EDs

the only people i know who applied ED2 are those who got rejected/deferred from their ED1 school.

I believe that the ED 1 acceptance rate is higher than ED 2. There was an article about this in last year's Emory Wheel.

Regarding the article in the Emory Wheel, do you recall the difference in ED I vs ED II acceptance rates?

The article in the "Emory Report" from Feb. 21, 2005 said that Emory received a record number of ED applicants for the 2005-2006 academic year. ED 1 had 617 applicants, of which 361 were admitted. ED 2 had 440 applicants, of which 155 were admitted. You do the math.

So can any one give me any opinions on my chances in getting into emory?

As an ED applicant, you have a fair chance of acceptane. Your GPA is the main thing holding you back. 90% of Emory students are in the top 10% of their HS class. Factor in legacies, unique candidates with hooks and URMs and you can see how important GPA/class rank is.

Yo, have I got any chance?

29 on ACT

unweighted gpa 3.9/4.0

AP courses this year: calc ab, physics c, french, government

leadership: vice president of mu alpha theta, secretary of some other club

I enlisted into the national guard, so I went to army infantry basic training as a junior, so I wrote about that experience and how I was squad leader and all the crap that happened over there and how it changed me

Anyway, have I got any chance?

You have a chance. If you live in GA, you're a shoe-in!

Here is a link to the article about ED acceptances from the February 21, 2005 Emory Report.

http://www.emory.edu/EMORY_REPORT/erarchive/2005/February/February%2021/recordapplication.htm

Comes out to 58.5% ED I and 35% ED II. Question. Doesn't that make ED II about the same rate as regular decision???

The admissions office on several occasions has stated that historically there is no difference between ED I and EDII acceptance rates. Obviously this was not the case last year. It would be interesting to uncover previous years stats.
Based upon last year, you are correct, the EDII & RD rates are identical.

I have just decided against applying ED II and will apply RD and Emory will be at the top of my list. I have demonstrated interest and believe that an RD app will suffice.

Have they actually said there is no difference in acceptance rates I and II, or just that there's no difference between I and II? The second could be interpreted to mean that both ED I and ED II are judged the same way. But wouldn't that imply that ED II is a weaker pool(at least last year)? That doesn't seem to make sense , since so many strong apps would be coming from ED I rejections and deferrals to Ivys etc. Anyone with any insights on this?

I actually have it in writing from an admissions officer and verbal from the Dean of Admissions that there is no difference in acceptance rates and chances of gaining admissions in either ED pool.

Unless the stats in the Emory Report were wrong, how can that be?

Being that last year's ED I apps increased by 14% and ED II apps increased by 22% while the percent of class filled by both EDs ( 41%) stayed the same as the year before, doesn't it seem likely that they were caught by the unexpected rise in ED II apps last year?

Sorry to keep going on about this, but I'm confused!

Perhaps last year was an anomaly. Who knows how many applicants will apply ED this year? My post included the words of an admissions officer and Dean of Admissions based upon the ED history.

Thanks, hopeful.
