2nd Decile and a 1280 on the Math and CR are way below Emory averages unless you are a recruited athlete or URM.
Strong ECs but academics make Emory a definite reach.

If your high school is truly a top school and you can raise the SAT, you should have a good shot.

just a comment, i dont think being 2nd decile in my school means as much as you think...i wonder wherea 3.9 with 3 AP's so far, and a full-all honors courseload would put me in ur school? Or in most schools for that matter.

my first decile goes from 4.1-4.6

our school isnt easy btw, we send easily 20-30 to ivies each year

what is the name of the school in NY?

4.1-4.6..thats like major grade inflation..I think the highest in our top ten is basically a 100..thats how hard my school is.

i think its actually 4.5 because the AP's are weighted .5. Our school offers many. Pretty much in every subject and the kids with these GPA's usually have around 5-8 AP's a year receiving A+'s in them, in addition to getting 5's on the exams. We had a good number get 5's this year on the AP Physics B and C exams

As I've written on other baords tonight, kids form top private schools are expected to have high SAT scores. I don't think any kid from a top private gets an excuse for a below average SAT.

na i understand what u guys r saying, nor am i looking for an excuse, why would i post this if i already had an answer?

just was curious

its a public school btw...

Lol this school is so popular it must not even need a name!!!

well that was an ignorant comment, no1 ever asked.

Well, if you change your last name to "Howser", but you're chances will shoot up to 100% ;) Good luck!

P.S.- Sorry if this post did nothing to help heh, but I just had to say it!

Definately a reach, if you can get that up to a 1400ish math/verbal you should have a decent shot.

outta curiosity, i think you guys really just looked at my scores and didnt read the rest of my post, cause most havent mentioned anything else

The thing is that Emory and all schools pretty much see if you're in the range before they read the whole app.

"im also gonna have exceptional essays and reccomendations"
"I also do alot of extracurricular stuff including: (the starred ones are my hooks, or at least i think they are)"

Why should we comment on this? According to you your recs and essays will be excellent. Why whould we question it? You said your EC's were your hook and you had a lot of them. That is true, your ec's are fine. It wouldn't make any sense to comment on the part of your application. Whether you like it or not, your SAT's are way below the middle-50% at emory. You aren't even in 25th percentile. That is your main problem. I'm being blunt, but this is why nothing else is being mentioned. People below the 25th percentile are either URM's, Legacies, or Athletes. At a school of this caliber you need to be near the 75 percentile to consider it a match. (The 75th percentile is 1460). I hope you get in, but work on your SAT's :) gl hf.

i never questioned that did i

you'll definitely get into Emory, it's not as hard as people are making it out to be.
