National Hispanic Merit Scholar Finalist
Total of 9 AP's taken through high school (including this current year)
Very rigorous schedule/classes
Good letters of recommendation
GPA on the rise: from a 3.0 in 9th grade to a 5.1 last semester
Good extracurriculars including athletics, lots of community service, science and math competitions, and many others... (leadership positions in some)
Excellent essays (or so I was told)
Mexican heritage (100% Mexican descent, permanent resident alien)</p>

<p>Then again the Hispanic population of Florida is pretty high so I assume lots of Hispanics apply to these universities.</p>

<p>Might not be as big an advantage as it is up north.</p>
