Chances at Georgetown? Other suggestions?

Hi all, I am currently looking at transferring to another university and was hoping to get some advice regarding where I should apply, and what kind of chances I will have. Right now I am a sophomore at a top 75 university and have a 3.76 gpa (if all goes as planned will be 3.79 at the end of this semester.) I am an economics major. Coursework includes:

Calculus (A)
Stats for econ (A)
Macro Principles (A)
Macro Theory (A)
Micro principles (A)

Other classes have been to fulfill core requirements such as college writing, etc.

Extracurricular activities:
Research assistant in econ department
Student Senator
Micro principles tutor
Active member in college Republicans and economics society

HS record is not too strong – 3.4 gpa; 1260 sat’s (old version)

I am especially interested in transferring to Georgetown University. Do I have a chance there? What other schools would you recommend with a good name and more specifically a strong economics program?

so you goto a school ranked between 50 and 75

Yea, in the US News rankings.

nspeds could give you alot of info on transferring to georgetown, in another thread he said supposedly they are increasing the amount of transfers they are accepting this year because the transfers traditionally have better GPAs there than the first-year admitted students

they also have a relatively high transfer rate to start with, so i'd say you're in pretty good shape, your SATs would be the only thing that would hurt you a little.

my sat's are a bit low too (1320) but I also have a 32 on the ACt. georgetown transfer admissions only require SAT or ACt....is there any obvious disadvantage to submitting just my ACT??

I don't think so. I'm sure they'd like to see some Subject Test scores if you have them, in which case you'd have to send all of your SAT scores, but your ACT is considerably better than SAT so don't send in the SAT unless you've got Subject Test scores. I'm not sure about Georgetown, but some schools strongly recommend subject tests, so you may want to check to make sure.

I'll give a detailed response tomorrow. Thanksgiving break is starting, and I want to rest a little before I get cranky.

I started this thread a while ago, and wanted to reopen it to see if anyone has suggestions to other schools that I might want to consider. With application deadlines only a couple months away, I wanted to begin looking at additional options.

By the way, my gpa is now a 3.81

Thanks!

Bump......

I think you have a pretty good chances for Georgetown University. However don't just apply there...look at other colleges such as University of Michigan or Carnegie Mellon.

don't worry about your HS GPA that much--you're a sophomore transfer.

where is nspeds??? he goes to G-Town and he knows much about transfer process.

He's probably relaxing at home. It's still break, right?

nspeds? relax? no way!

Hahaha. I've spoken with canyonbrad through private message.

I'm relaxing/preparing for the LSAT. Perhaps if I complete the test successfully in February, I will be more helpful.
