Bump

your GPA is a little low but your test scores are good.

UGA - Accepted
Georgia State - Accepted
UNC CH - Deferred/ rejected
U Michigan - Deferred/ rejected
Georgia Tech - Deferred/ Accepted
Washington U - rejected
Emory - Deferred/ rejected
Columbia- rejected

I would try to add some more target/ safety schools to your list. For example Clemson, UT Austin, U of South Carolina

wow is my gpa really holding me back that much

For ga tech where does your math stack up against your classmates at hs? I think you have a better chance with emory than gt. Emory actively recruits in ga and many local students do not apply. UNC takes a limited number of students out of state. Uga more than likely but you never know today. Ga state is a slam dunk as a safety. Apply to more matches would be my advice. And make sure ga state as your safety you would be happy.

Are you taking statistics after calculus AB or instead of calculus?
UMich, Columbia, WashU are out if reach.
Apply to Georgia Southern and/or Georgia College (Georgia state is a safety but it’s very commuter - both of the above will provide a residential experience).
You should qualify for HOPE instate and some merit scholarships at some colleges.
Apply to UGA Honors.
Emory is a good low reach.
Add more matches and one more safety.
Why not Morehouse (it admits all ethnic groups)?
Run the NPC on Northeastern, USC Columbia, Elon, Lafayette, Lehigh, UAlabama, FSU, VTech, UVermont, UDelaware, UMN.
Look into UKentucky (new Honors College).

I took calculus BC and am taking ap stat this year @scubadive , but I really want to go to UNC CH because of their strong med program. Would UVA be a good match? any other match schools? and is a 33 superscore too low for me my friends all

You want to go to med school? Then go where you can afford and make good grades for undergrad. GA tech is a really tough choice for undergrad if you want to go to med school.

If premed, attend either a smaller private school where weeding is minimal and you got lots of merit/financial aid, or a public university where you got into the Honors College. You must keep your costs to a minimum.
UNC CH doesn’t have anything special for premeds BTW. It’d be costly with no obvious advantage over UGA.

If you want to be premed gt is a gpa destroyer for many students. Stay instate. Look also at KSU as a potential backup. Most credits transfer within Georgia’s public university system so if you dont initially get into UGA you can transfer in.

@MYOS1634 what small private schools would u suggest? Like Emory or smaller like mercer? But my parents want me to go to a school that is sort of prestigious?

If your parents want prestige, apply for Honors at Northeastern, plus Lafayette and Lehigh [in terms of prestige, those would roughly be at Emory’s level]; USC Columbia Honors is one of the top 5 Honors colleges in the country and thus very hard to get into. UVermont is appreciated by Northeastern private school kids, as is Miami OH, and the Honors College at both is a sure thing if you don’t botch your essays.
In terms of smaller private schools where you would have excellent support for med school as well as sufficient prestige (by which I suppose you mean social recognition as well as academic recognition after college) I’d recommend St Olaf (Mayo clinic internships), Dickinson, Denison, Rhodes (St Jude’s internships), Case Western (has its own med school), which would be good matches for you.
In terms of safety, Mercer or Berry would be ok, certainly better than KSU. If you wanted to go out of state, Earlham biochemistry would make for a good college and major.
Run the NPC and show the results to your parents. Have they given you a budget? Do you know how much they can afford from income and savings? This should be your search’s driver.

I took calculus BC and am taking ap stat this year @scubadive , but I really want to go to UNC CH because of their strong med program. Would UVA be a good match? any other match schools? and is a 33 superscore too low for me my friends all get 34 or higher?

Why do you keep referring to UNC CH med program? Med schools don’t give a rat’s behind if you go to UGA, Mercer, or UNH CH. If you want to go to med school, go in state with the HOPE and save your money for med school.

And UNC CH has no special “med program” for undergrads. It’s the same as UGA and UGA Honors will be both cheaper and more likely to help you get into Med School.

@wolore1
UGA- Low Match
GA Tech- Low Reach
UNC CH,- High Reach
Georgia State- safety
UMich- Low Reach
WashU- High Reach
Emory- High Reach
Columbia- High Reach
I hope this doesn’t discourage you but your GPA will hurt you. Are you 100% sure about pre-medicine or is that just your parents talking?
You best chance for Reach schools are probably GTech, and WashU as they are more lenient on GPA’s if the SAT/ACT scores are high, that means you should retake.
I would recommend Emory’s premed program as the best of the bunch based off of it’s interdisciplinary leanings.

I am pretty set on pre-med, but also want a second option if I don’t like it after a year or two. I was thinking about UA and their pre med program and how they offer generous scholarships to metro atl kids @VANDEMORY1342

Two parents with kids from the same high school wanted to go to med school. One sent their kid to a private LAC spending over 100k, the other parent sent their kid to a no name in state university. Both kids then on went onto the same medical school. One set of parents is saddled in debt the other with no debt. The end result was the same but which one came out ahead? The one who ignored the prestige.

Been researching JHU and was wondering wherever I would have the slightest chance of going there for BME if I apply ED
