Chances at getting in to Cal - your opinion, please

I posted this in the wrong forum and copied and pasted my message to someone else below. Can anyone give me some input and let me know what my chances are? I feel it's kind of a 50-50 at this point. I really appreciate it!

Hi Lisa,

I've been wondering the same thing. I hope you don't mind me posting here and asking what my chances are too. From what people say GPA is what they're looking for the most and a 4.0 is great! I wonder how much the other things they look for weigh in. I am also a sociology major and I've been told it's really competitive, which makes me worry. Unlike you, my GPA is 3.56, so I worry about that. I will have my AA at the end of this semester, and I also hold an AA from another school, but in photography only. I mentored for a middle school, and volunteered as a marketing associate for a non-profit photo book and have been an assistant underwriter for about 8 years now. I also did school paper, peer tutor and a vocational work experience program in HS. Again, my GPA is not THAT high. Our applications together would look great. I'm not sure how great personal statements are and I have only taken one sociology course, but many other humanities course, which I think benefit the sociology major. I dunno...

Can anyone give Lisa and me some input?? Pretty please?

So you'll be a transfer student? Generally, it's easier to get in if you're a transfer student because it shows you've already proven you'll stick to it. Berkeley and all other universities pick students they think won't drop out, and being a transfer student usually proves that. Other than that, I'm not sure what the statistics are. But if you don't get in, don't sweat it! There are plenty of schools out there.

Yes. I am a transfer student. If I don't get in I'll be bummed. I plan to stay in the area, so I'll just go to state, but I have one class to take for entrance at State...so that may mean I'll have to wait another semester or year...
