I was aiming for the Dean’s too but ended up with the Global Citizens (15,000/year). Trying not to be disappointed because that would be kind of silly. Have you heard yet?

I received a Global Citizens as well. Was hoping for more, but at least it’s something.

I find the merit scholarship thing to be not easy to sort out. Son received very substantial ($10,000+) merit awards from schools more competitive and higher ranked than Goucher, but nothing from Goucher. It’s unfortunate, in the sense that he really liked Goucher, I think he would have been in his final 2 or 3, but given the difference in COA it’s not even on the radar anymore.

My son is a freshman at Goucher and loves it. He recieved the lesser Dean’s Scholarship, 21,000 a year. I don’t mean to brag, but if his experience can help any one else, who knows? He had a 98.14 weighted average, 2000 on SAT. Mostly IB courses, although not the diploma. He had glowing letters of rec, including one from a vice principal that he had worked on many projects with. He became very involved with “Challenge Day”, a national program of interactive daylong activities to foster understanding between groups. They were impressed with that. He interviewed with Goucher when they came to NY and let them know Goucher was his first choice. He changed his application from regular to early action and stayed in contact with his admission’s rep throughout the process. WE were not expecting the Dean’s. I know its not really fair, because not everyone can do it, but I think the interview really helped. I wish everyone good luck!

So glad your son loves it! So does my sophomore daughter (who received a Global Citizens). However, she also decided to apply for International scholars program, and was successful. That added some additional $ for study abroad. One thing I have appreciated about Goucher is that they don’t “nickle and dime” us re: other expenses. They paid for an additional intersession course for International scholars and provided residence and $ for food. They paid for her attendance at a dance festival last spring break, and have been generous when her activities required extra college stays when the residence halls would otherwise be closed. She has been very pleased with the quality of cafeteria food. Her teachers have generally been excellent. So…what she has received for the money has been top notch!
Nepop, the lack of merit $ sounds truly disappointing. I’m glad that your son has some other excellent choices to choose from.

My son loves the food also! We were concerned about his attaining the 3.25 to keep the scholarship, but so far so good. Did you attend Parents Weekend in the fall? Glad to hear your daughter is happy also. They’ve had a lot of snow days; I think the year is going to be added on to, but I have not heard anything definite. Do you know anything? Your screen name seems familiar; perhaps we’ve “spoken” before. Best wishes for the rest of the semester!

LeM, If we’ve “met” before, my memory is too short to remember. We went to Parent’s Weekend the first year, but couldn’t make it this past fall. I too wonder about all those snowdays! I’ll let you know if I get any inside info about makeups. Looking forward to having our d home for a week! Hope you and your s have a fun, restful break.
