I go to an EXTREMELY competetive private high school in North Carolina. About 20 kids per year go to UNC Chapel Hill and another 10 go to ivies or southern ivies out of 140 kids.

My chances?

Does your school rank? Your SAT is weak, but not too low to have a shot at admissions. If GW is your first choice, consider applying ED. It is easier.

GW isn't my first choice at all, but I do love the international business and the location. Do you apply to a major on the application?

yea i agree with green. your sat score is on the lowside for gw and considering that the acceptance rate is dropping you probably need to bring it up. you would probably be a good candidate for ed though. you apply for different schools on the application. for instance, i applied to the elliott school of international affairs. the different schools tend to have a little bit different acceptance rates. i dont know exactly what the business school's is..

You apply to a particular school within the university, not a specific major, for instance the business school or the Elliot school. I think your chances are weak unless you can bring up your CR score significantly. Have you already taken Chemistry and Physics? If not, I'd take one of those rather than the AP ES. Also, your ECs don't show a particular theme.

If your school is extremely competivie as you said, how come your SAT are so low, particularly 520 in reading SAT.

In that case, you are going to have a hard time getting accepted early decision...it isn't impossible, but you need to improve your SAT 50-100 points if possible. Also, your grades and ECs are fine...but not spectacular enough to make up for lower areas of your application. Where do most people with similar GPAs go to college at your high-school?

The acceptance rate for the business school is around 30%, and the average SAT score for business school students is around 2,000.

As you do not seem to want to apply ED, you are going to need to show genuine interest in the school if you want to get in. That means visiting, interviewing, and writing a GW-specific essay rather than copying and pasting one you used from another application.

My guess is that you get wait-listed. Should that happen, you would need to go to GW and interview again.

Alright, on my ecs, I forgot to put I have 2 years Varsity Baseball, 2 years Varsity Soccor, to go along with rec basketball and rec baseball. You could say the theme for that is sports and service. My reading scores are so low because I stink at reading; I do well in English class because I can write, analyze, etc, I am just a very slow reader, meaning on the SAT, I either rush or don't finish. At my school, people who have around a 3.7 (my GPA) go to schools like American, Elon, U Maryland, U Georgia, Clemson, etc. I am going to try very hard to get my reading scores up, and I think right now, GW is a slight reach for me.
