I’m a student from California, my school is really rigorous and ranked #5 for academics in California, #109 in the US. My mom graduated from UW
Scores
GPA: 3.41 W
9 AP classes, heavy rigor (I’m aware I have a weak GPA, I had under a 3.0 sophomore year because I transferred to a really rigorous school and it came as a shock to me, but junior year I have a 4.25 weighted)
SAT: 1170
ECs: Mission trips through Church, Varsity Swimmer, started Investment Club at school, hold a job, and volunteer at my Church.
Senior Year Courseload: AP Statistics, AP Literature, AP Government/Economy, AP Art History, and several electives.
I want to apply to colleges such as GWU, University of Washington, Colorado University, Virginia Tech, and UCSC
I need to know where I should apply.
Intended Major is Industrial Design, class of 2021
Retake the SAT and aim for a 32 ACT equivalent. Take the ACT as well, since you never know which you might be better at. Right now, you don’t have great chances at GWU and U Dub, as your GPA and SAT are both on the low side. Same story for VA Tech. However, you are exhibiting a very strong upward trend, and you may be able to explain your poor GPA to the admissions officers. Best of luck
Does that mean I have a decent chance at CU and UCSC? UCSC is my first choice because it’s in-state. I plan on taking the SAT again, 1170 was my first try
You can look up what most colleges need by googling “Common Data Set VA Tech 2015” for example. It will show the stats of admitted students. Whatever you do apply to a couple of schools that you know will accept you and you would not mind attending. Do the cost estimates with your parents to make sure they can afford to pay for it. If you are a junior you are doing a good job by researching now.
You and your parents should run the net price calculators on each school. Out of state publics will be expensive with little or no financial aid.
Price isn’t the issue, I can afford all the schools. I just want to know if I can get in.
