Colleges: Harvard, Princeton, Cornell, Middlebury, Carleton, Johns Hopkins, CU Boulder

SAT: 2310 New (760M/790CR/760W), 1510 Old (720M/790V)
SATII: Math II - 790, Biology E - 790, US History - 800, Japanese - 440
GPA: 4.78W/4.0UW
Rank: 1/~250
AP Euro - 4

I am currently taking AP Govt, AP English, AP Spanish, AP Physics. I took Japanese I-III. I also took Calc I, II, and III, Differential Equations, and US History I and II at UVA (all A's).

Here comes the bad part:
EC's:
Varsity Football - 12
Ultimate Frisbee - 9-12
Weightlifting outside of school - 10-12
Nat. Honor Society - 12
Math Honor Society - 12 (tutoring 1 hour a week)
National Merit Semifinalist

However, I do have a bit of a hook; my dad died when I was 11, then my mom went bankrupt and got breast cancer, and we live in a poor section of town where people blast their music 24/7 so I have to go to the UVA 24 hour libraries, and before I got my license I rode my bike there. Also, I broke my leg in 10th grade. Most of this is explained in my essay, and I think the rest, if not all of it is explained in my GC's rec.

I would really appreciate someone giving me an estimation of my chances, and whether or not my "hook" makes up for my low ec's in being competitive in the Ivys. Thanks.

I'm confident that you'll get into JHU..
Cornell is also a very good match for you..
Don't know about others that much..

Harvard and Princeton seems to reject a lot of high SAT/high GPA students and rather accept olympiad winners or ppl w/ rare talents.. but its still a match/slight reach probably..

you'll defintely get accepted to at least 1/2 of these schools..

you have great involvement in ECs, great grades, great SAT..
and you suffered throughout domestic problems and poverty as well.. that will get the colleges attention..

An A in Diff Eq. looks very competitive.. few ppl who take that class get As..

And 440 on Japanese will be most likely forgiven...
1) Hard language
2) Not your first language
3) Only top 3 SAT II scores are usually considered and u have (800,790,790)

Oh crap, whoops, I meant 710 on Biology E. Hell, I think it's pretty good for not having taken Biology since 9th grade and then taking it Dec. 4. And I really got lucky with DiffEq, because my teacher was this really young guy who didn't care about the class and made the exams really, really easy.

Harvard: Reach
Princeton: Reach
Cornell: Match
Middlebury: Match
Carleton: Match
Johns Hopkins: Match
CU Boulder: Safety

Harvard and Princeton are reaches for everyone, but a 4.78 GPA w/ a 2310 SAT and great EC's make you about as qualified as possible. Best of luck!

Yeah, my gifted teacher and my GC are ****ed at me for not applying to UVA, but I've decided that I really, really don't want to stay in Charlottesville. I live two minutes away from campus, and their math department isn't something to write home about. Also, I really don't want to write the extra three essays.

and remember that being top 0.4% in competitive AP school w/ access to univ. is very exceptional!!
best you can be actually.. ur grades are perfect..

SAT is above average at most schools..

only thing you may need to work about is lack of awards..
but that should made up by activities + family problems

Yeah, the course is listed as "Ordinary Differential Equations," and it was basically elementary diff eq with linear algebra now that I think about it, so yeah, it wasn't too difficult.

Also, does it change things since I've got an extra reccomendation from a Princeton grad (the man who manages my inheritance for the courts) and that his daughter is the Dean of the Woodrow Wilson school there and my football coach knows the coach there and is trying to get me on the team?
