Chances at H,Y,P,M,S,C

I think I can get into my safeties but I want chances on top collegs. I basically want someone to tell me if I should spend 50 bucks to apply? And what 10-20 ranking colleges?Thx
Early MIT, Regular Rest
Im Asian
Male
I skipped a grade so I am a little young for a senior.
Class Size: 1,000 (No joke, this school sucks because all the inferior people get squeezed)

I got a 2170 on my SAT first try, but I am retaking it this October
I got 800 Physics SAT II, Chem 790, Math II 780 No retake
AP tests: Five 5s, couple of 4s and 3s, nothing below
GPA: OUCH! Well my school weights it but unweighted it is like 3.85/4.00.
Weighted it is barely top 5%. I am not in the top 3%, where atleast 10 other students from my school are applying to exact same top schools that I am applying to EA
Clubs: Science Olympiad (VP), Amnesty International, Key Club, National Honor Society, Symphony Orchestra (we have after school practices of 6 hours a week+ 8 hours during weeks in school), Bunch of other things with no leadership
Awards: American Chemical Society Honorable Mention, National Merit Semifinalist??? (maybe), AP Scholar w/ Distinction, Took the beginning test for USNCO and AMC, but phailed miserably (but you have to get nominated to take it)
Essays: Hopefully good
Recs: Chem teacher, dunno about second one

Evaluation: Yea Im screwed. We have like 10 people with perfect 4.0s at my school unweighted, made some summer camps like RSI or something or some NASA summer camp, like all of these people with huge awards, national rankings, sports teams. But give me a chance atleast? Should I pay 50 to apply?

Thanks

hmmm we are in similar boats my skool is like 800 people and 100 kids are magnet which basically means 2300+ and 4.0

so this is just my opinion, we have similar stats 3.84 gpa, 2310 sat ( but thats super scored) and are in some what of a similar situation ( all 100 kids are pretty much perfect smart, applying to H,Y,P,M,S,C)

for me at least im not applying to any of the TOP ivies like harvard, yale, MIT etc… but thats just me im not discouraging you from applying but i dont think its worth the money or the time unless u are like AMAZING like top of the nation at something

ps: def retake your SAT and try to get 2250+

i hope that helped :]

haha oops MIT isnt an ivy but i think you get what i mean

Do collegs usually change the amount of people from school/location?

We have this website, and it says that in the last 2 years, the (2008, 2009)
Harvard (3, 3)
MIT (1, 3)
Princeton (1, 1)
Yale (2, 0)
Stanford (2, 1)
Class Size (900, 1000)

Thats actually kinda low. But my class is way better than the previous years 2 classes (IMO but I think a lot of teachers agree). How much do they count that and also class size?

Will they understand that bigger school == very few opportunity to stand out?

I played 1 on 1 against my friend from a nearby school in another district with 1,500 kids and I can easily beat him 1 on 1 in basketball but I cant make my HS team while he made JV last year and might play Varsity this year (i know its 1 on 1, not team vs team, but you get the concept).

This is just an example of one of the students from my school. Wow i cant believe I am internet searching like this lol…i just searched my school and this is what i get
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/729105-chance-me-ill-chance-you.html

And yea @ivy: I hope to get 2250+. My current score, theres no way I am applying EA to MIT. I hope to take it possibly twice. I also want to possibly get 1st chair in ochestra.

hmm for my school at least its been going DOWN by alot
like '07 around 13 kids from my school went to MIT
'08 it was like 7
'09 went down to 5

hmm colleges can usually only pick a certain number of kids from one region
so if your school is like top of the region then i think you’re fine

with the basketball thing i don’t think there’s any way of colleges knowing or not which
sorta of sucks but i think how big ur class is and how competitive it is would be incorporated in your counselor rec?

You probably have no chance.

haha that sounds like the kids in my school -.-

^ok well atleast your honest. Anyone with like some miracle stories?

It sucks that I have to be compared to people from my school. If I went to a different school, I (1) will get more opportunites (2) will not get compared.

What schools do you guys recommend?
I am also looking at Chicago, UVA, Northwestern, UPenn, chances?
Oh Ill probably just do MIT EA then, but no HYPSC.

yea…2 people from my school that I found on here (searched my city—lol internet creeping) and these arent even the top 10 kids in my grade…you get the idea just look at their stuff…

Your second list are reasonable reaches. The most important schools on your list are your match and safety schools.
