Chances at Harvard, Princeton, Duke...

I accidently misposted this in college admissions, so I'm gonna put it here since I can't figure out how to move it over. Thanks a ton CC community!!

What are my chances at Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Duke, UVA, Georgetown, Emory, Michigan, Wake Forest, and Dartmouth? You don't have to answer for all these schools, mainly Duke, Princeton, and Harvard.

5.42 GPA
3.8 unweighted

12 AP/IB's throughout high school

Classrank: 9/491

NC Resident

Predicted 2275 SAT based on PSAT, historical trends, tests I've taken

Multiple essay contest winner (Awards, and this means I'll have good essays)

5 Red Cross certifications

Track and Field for school

Academic programs during summer

Lifeguard during weekends

Now here is the main thing:

My extracurriculars are my highest point.

Vice President of Russian club

Founder and president of Non-partisan politics club

Intern at statewide political party

Treasurer of local young political party

Executive board member of statewide young political party board

Writer for political organization

President of Moot Court Team

Member of Speech and Debate Team

I've written multiple Op-eds for the Wall Street Journal, NY Times, and two other major newspapers

Black Belt

Obviously, I've got major political extracurriculars, and Moot Court and Speech/Debate are also political. My Op-eds (Not letters to the editors, but actual op-eds) are also political, those will be included with my applications when I apply next year.

Also, how are my extracurriculars? Will they make up for my GPA?

bump bump bump

bump bump bump, also, sorry about all these bumps

Very well rounded. 9/491 puts you in the 1-2 % range which is great. Goodluck!

You have a very good chance ! One thing is that you have highlight something make you unique or different than others. You have to understand you are competing with all the other excellent students like you.

bump bump bump!

Well I wrote a reply but I guess it didn’t post. I think you are a match for Emory, Wake Forest, Michigan, and UVA, especially because of your ECs. Harvard and Princeton are reaches for anyone but I think you’ve got a great shot. The only thing that could really hurt you would be your GPA but your ECs are stellar and may make up for it.

bumppppppp

bumppppppppp

bumppppppppppp

You should be great for sure at Duke, Emory, UVA, Michigan, Dartmouth. I can’t vouch for Harvard or Princeton. Nobody can vouch for Harvard. That being said, at the three schools you asked about specifically, they’ll see that you’re committed to political activity and that you’ve been recognized at a statewide level. You clearly care about politics and speaking, and that consistency gives you mad points. Why haven’t you taken the SATs/ACTs yet? i don’t know how much test scores count at this level but it certainly helps the admissions office to gauge you right off the bat. I’d say like 30% for Princeton, 75% at Duke, and somewhere like 25% at Harvard. Good luck!!

The top ivies are reaches, but you could stand out because of the depth you have in politics. I think you have a great shot at the rest, especially duke because they give preference to NC residents. I think you should just go for them all and I’m sure you’ll get into a lot. Good luck!

Chance back?

I mean Ivies are reaches for anyone, so even if you scored a 2400 and have a 4.0 GPA there’s still a substantial chance that you’ll get rejected

I have nothing different than what was said above. Solid everywhere, even a good shot at Harvard or Princeton.

I concur with the above posters. Great shots at all of your schools, but without an actual SAT/ACT to go off of, it’s still impossible to tell. Also, I just would like to remind you that SAT scores always end in a “0”, and never with end with any number other than “0”. (Sorry, it set off my OCD  )

Without actual standardized test scores, it is too early to offer predictions of your admission outcomes.

Not sure if you can count on the PSAT as an accurate predictor of your SAT score because relatively few prepare for the PSAT while a much higher percentage take SAT preparation seriously.

You are right, the SAT is the most definitive factor.

Keep the chances coming!

bumpppppppppp

bumpppppppp!

You should have solid chances at all of these schools except the two Ivies (reaches for anyone). Even then you stand a solid chance at getting in based on your EC’s and academics.
