Chances at Harvard/Yale/Stanford

Currently at a top non-ivy undergrad (think northwestern, duke, etc.).

GPA: 3.75/4.33 (Econ major, math and psych minor)
LSAT: 177

Not sure what else is really relevant. I have executive positions in 2 clubs. I have two internships but they have both been in the finance industry. I have done research on microfinance and economic development in emerging economies with Duke faculty.

I think it is BS if my GPA will hurt my chances. I think it is fair to say that no matter what university you go to a econ major/math minor will be considerably more difficult than polisci or some humanities major. hopefully my LSAT will make up for it. I also have pretty good scores on GRE math.

Decent shot at HLS, probably out at YLS. SLS is a black box. In prior years, 3.8 always seemed to be a hard GPA line for HLS, but they also seemed willing to dip a little below for a great LSAT score.

The GRE is irrelevant

Also, pretty pointless to try to conceal your school when you indicate later your post that you did research with Duke faculty…

Wasnt exactly trying to conceal it

Are u sure the GRE score wont help at all? My academic adviser gave me the impression that the math minor/GRE score would make me a unique applicant. Math is after all the purest form of logic and i plan on relating that to law.

Not really sure, then, what the purpose of your initial statement was. I think everyone here has some idea of Duke’s caliber.

Your academic advisor was wrong.

Math minor is certainly a small positive factor. But doing well on an exam that law schools don’t require is completely irrelevant.

transferr, are you guessing on your gpa / lsat? Or are these real numbers? How many years does the gpa cover?

Hmmm I’m a little skeptical here…I go to Duke, too, and you can’t get a 4.33 here. The highest possible GPA is 4.0. As and A+s are worth the same…not sure if I believe this guy.

Technically, if A+s are noted as A+s on a Duke transcript, they are awarded as 4.33 on the LSDAS report, and the LSDAS GPA is out of 4.33.

So I guess there’s a hint of truth to the whole thing, depending on what GPA he’s reporting. If he’s a transfer, it probably is the LSDAS GPA, since that is the GPA that matters for law school admissions (not merely the GPA of one’s degree granting institution).

According to OP’s previous post he is a sophomore (or atleast he was a rising sophomore this past summer) and should now be completing his 3 term semester of school. At this time, it is a little to soon to speculate how the other 5 terms ahead of him are going to turn out.

transfer, congrats. Do you mind telling us how you got that lsat score; what strategies did you use; did you take a prep course (which one if so); how did you normally prepare, et cetera. Thank you.
