Chances at Harvard?

Asian girl from virginia
* 610/690/640 V/M/W (combined - 1940)
* French SAT II - 480
* Math IIc - 690
* US history - 770
* 5 on APUSH exam
* Top 10 in class of 470ish
* Works 40+ hours per week (3 jobs in the summer) so not much ECs

Not for me, but someone I know - their chances at HYPS? They'll be applying Harvard SCEA.

I'm sure that SAT I score is low. It should be raised. They say 2250+ is good.
Furthermore, the French SAT II and Math IIc score is low, compared to the other applicants I've seen. French is definitely low. Math is just a tad low.

Where are the ECs? (oh, nvm there aren't any) GPA?
And she's Asian, so her chances are further ravaged.
I say slim chance. IMO.

GPA?

Right now I can tell you your SAT I scores are low, need to raise them up to ATLEAST a 700 per section.

A 480 French is way way way down there-
retake it.

anyone else?

Do the 40+ hours (I'm assuming during the school year?) translate to some disadvantaged background she has? I don't want to be intrusive or nosy, but it's important in the admissions game.

she's the first person in her family to go to college, and her school is pretty rural.

She needs to get everything up to 700+, and do a very good explanation on why there is a lack of EC's (maybe not that concrete, but something of that sort). She'll have a chance in that case.

How can you explain lack of ECs? I'm just wondering, because mine aren't very impressive.

In the OP's case (or his/her friend) I was saying to back up the lack of EC's because she works 40+ hours a week. I'm not sure how to handle your case amcgillian unless the opportunity of many EC's weren't available.

Harvard: Reach

So are the OP and Mr. Pink the same person or did Mr. Pink use the search tool?

She has a chance (though I won't try to estimate that because IMO that's a waste of time since I'm not an adcom). If you search the archives, you'll find that a white male from rural Virginia got in EA last year with similar stats.

Someone pulled the same trick in the Harvard forum.

i'd say that you would need to improve scores to increase ur chances but anything can happen, just not as likely
