This chances thread is really hard to answer. Do you have any leadership positions? Because that will greatly affect your chances. Your SAT scores are fine - remember that Gerogetown does not consider the writing section, and therefore you should spend time improving CR and M.

The only thing that is truly working against you right now is being from NJ. That is one of the top states for applicants to Gerogetown - which only increases the competition.

Well, I have research that I am working on, as well as shadowing top clinical physicians. I also am one of the "head" volunteers at the Assisted Living Center I work at (I've been there since 8th grade). I'm also one of the top MUN delegates at my school, have won awards and such, but I did not gain an actual title this year :(

so yea, I guess one of the pitfalls of my EC's is leadership positions, but I hope to mitigate the effect through my research/shadowing/NJ Legislature Award for Community Service

It's a combination of the leadership issue and the fact that you are from New Jersey - which is by far the most competitive to get into Georgetown (or at least, the most number of people apply from there). You are all over the map with your ECs, you have a bunch of science, but then you jump into Model UN. Maybe if you could explain your passions/interests, it might be easier to tell you where to improve.

well, you're certainly right about one thing -- I really do like Medicine. However, that's not to say I have no other interests as well, such as Model UN (For some reason I get a kick out of speaking at conferences in front of 200+ people -- gives me a rush as it does with most MUNers :) ). You're right, my leadership positions are lacking, but I tried to mitigate those with pretty good EC's. I also am not one of those one track people, I have developed passions (MUN, Community Service, and Science-related materials) and I have pursued them. So hopefully the admin committee will realize that instead of seeing my EC's as superficial.

It's a reach. Your GPA is good but not great. Your SATs are good but not outstanding. Don't worry about the writing section, as Georgetown doesn't consider it. You have a few strong ECs, but nothing that leaps off the page. Good luck!
