Chances at Harvrd?

Hi everyone,

I hoped u could gimme some advise. Here are my resumes.

SATs: 510 math
590 verbal
470 writing

From the top 45% of a class of 200 in south-east Wyoming. Its a very small area and my family is not wealthy and my school doesnt have two many opportunities for AP (or are they EP?) classes or anything.

I'm entering my senior year so so far I have ECs:

3 years church choir
2 years job as local ranch-hand (tougher than it sounds!)
president of class
secretary of environment committee
school prefect
amateur fisherman since age 4
3rd place 2003 local hunting competition
2nd place 2004 regional choir championship

I am caucasion so idk does that help. I have seven brothers and sisters, and I've had to help raise many of them after my father lost his job and then our home soonafter burned down. Somebody in town had a cousin who went to harvard and he told me i have about a 75% chance of gettin admitted. It sounds like it can't be right, so can anybody tell me is this true? If its wrong, wht are my chances?

looking very solid, I suggest to break 500 on writing and you should be good.

i recommend applying early, as you may have a better chance.

I'm sorry to have to break it to you....you seem like such a sweet girl whose been through so much, but your scores and class rank are just not in the range that Harvard is looking for. Even with your out of the ordinary location and family troubles, I fear that it may not be enough.

Now, I know there are some Native Americans in Wyoming, do you think there is anyway you could become tight with some and list yourself as one? then, you'd be in for sure.

So basically, Bingo, what you're telling me is I might have a 75% chance of getting in? YESS!!!!!!!

ChadMichaelMurray, people like you have been trying to keep me and my family down my whole life! I'm not gonna let you. Yu are probably just some rich boy from out east! You probably never even milked a cow in your whole life. I am going to Harvard or another Ivy and ain't nobody gonna stop me.

lol '

oXChadMichaelMurrayXo: the stats of admitted Native American students are not different than that of other admitted students, and Harvard generally rejects more Native American students than are admitted each year....

ur chances are so low, that ur app will cause the Harvard adcoms eye pain

I dont think so. If this is a serious person (which I doubt) they could have a fair shot. Grades and test scores mean nothing when an individual can effectively convey why they want to be there and how they are willing to contribute (of course, being able to do the work as well). HYPS are sick of your average 1500, 3.9 president of NHS. These people are all the same. What I discovered this summer (At H) is that if you can truly contribute something, you will have a shot. Plus Harvard is desperate for poor people. For the girl, work on ur ECs and best of luck if u arent some BSer wasting time

oh, and please work on those test scores.

The immaculate application.

I'm getting such conflicting messages! Do I have a good chance of getting in? I have people telling me I'm entirely unsuitable on the one hand, and on the other people are telling me that I have a decent (50%?) shot, and then still others are doubting my very existence. That's just offensive, btw. Please, I've had to deal with a lot of nonsense in my life, and with the Lord's grace I've always managed to pull through. All I want is an honest assessment. Thank you for your help! By the way, I'm not a she. Kelly is a boy's name too.

kelly_'010- a lot of people on here just like to mess around. Remember most posters are fellow HS students like yourself who've never been accepted to any college. They have no idea if you'd get into Harvard or not. But keep in mind that your SAT scores are much lower than most Harvard students. While Harvard won't release average SAT scores, most score between 600-800 on each section. But you can bring up your scores if you take the SAT again. Buy a practice SAT book and do the workbook and tests. Also, don't listen to your friend who said you have 75 chance of getting in- the admit rate is only 10%, and its really hard to tell who will get in, so that guess he gave seems way too high. But remember Harvard isn't everything. There are lots of good schools.

i agree with what DHA_10 says.

What the heck? Are you guys this naive? Just look at posts #4 and #5, don't tell me you don't see anything wrong there. EAS, you are going to Harvard for christ's sakes......

I wouldn't be surprised if this troll is iwannagoivy

I could see the test scores being a problem at Harvard, but getting in is not your biggest problem. Your biggest problem is not screaming at everyone who criticizes you that they've "never milked a cow in their whole life." Quit being defensive. No one's trying to "keep you down," and no one has the capability to "keep you down" except you! Get those scores up and you may have a chance.

PS: I am not some rich boy from out east.

Oh my God, this is a joke guys... I agree with dooit: for the harvard forum, you guys do seem kind of naive right now...

Dooit- Christ has nothing to do with me going to Harvard. And I also like to be mature and give people the benefit of the doubt. When people post jokes, they do it for attention. Writing a serious, honest answer isn't the attention they crave, and they'll stop. So instead of being naive, maybe I'm just being grown up, something that a lot of the people so anxious to flame or be sarcastic here could use a good dose of.

nice EAS..............

lol, some people here just have no online experience.
