Chances at Harvrd?

So the general vibe I'm getting here is that my chances are pretty solid, as long as I can bring up my test scores (to say around an 1800?) and get some more good activities. My school just started recently and I joined the student union this year as its negotiator for our next contract. I'm really exicted. Any thoughts on this or other advice for junior year?
Thanks, guys! Kelly

Get your scores up. You said you have little activities out there. Perhaps if you took on a personal forum yourself, one that represents something you have a passion for, and go at it wholeheartedly, that might be impressive. I'm from the east (grew up on a farm myself...milked cows, even slopped hogs...LOL). But you can't be lashing out with defensive comments such as rich guys out east. I get the feeling that the root of your defense is a strong desire to get away from the farm into something totally different, and maybe you feel that may be a hindrance for you since you're not one of those "rich boys out east". If you view your own personal upbringing in a positive light and use your talents to your fullest potential, along with some charm, you could have a good chance of getting into a good school. If you don't get into an ivy league school, don't take it as a major disappointment. There are too many good schools to worry about the fact that you got into an ivy league school, merely for sake of bragging rights.

are you iwannagoivy

helana dietrich: you have wasted 15 minutes of your life (or however long it took you to type that post).

All you CCers shouldn't just assume all these posts as jokes. Some of these posters are in fact serious.

To the OP, I'm sorry, but unless you increase that SAT score, you don't have a chance.

First of all, I don't even know what iwannagoivy is. I have never even spoken to this person in my life. Second of all, please don't talk about me like I'm not reading it on my own thread. Some of you guys are really mean and cut-throat and it shows. All I asked for was a word of advice, not insults for me and others who are kind enough to help. Please keep your nastiness to yourselves if you can't say anything constructive.

100%! No way Harvard can turn down such a convincing applicant. Make sure your essay is about cow-milking.

LMAO this is hilarious

kelly... listen to me very carefully, okay?
I don't mean to criticize you, but...

"Harvard" has one more "a" in it than you wrote. Make sure to put that extra "a" in, and there's no doubt you'll be accepted. With those impeccable scores (perfect people are boring, and have no place at Harvard anyway), that experience in your church choir, and especially your secretary position in your environmental committee, there's no way they could deny you admission.

And, by the way, I hear the dean of admissions is a real sucker for fisherman. He taught himself how to fish, and he highly respects those who did the same. Just make sure to include that in your essay as your main focus, and you're golden.

Hahaha... oh man, this is awesome.

Sorry Goldfish, but the OP's stats are simply more impressive. However, here's how you can improve:
Lower your SATs. Don't be another clone.
Drop all your AP courses. Don't send those scores.
Remove 80% of those awards, they mean nothing. Precalculus award? Math honors? Colleges really don't care if you can do math or not, stop trying to pad your application.
Music. Pff. That's not an EC. Would you put down TV and reading books as ECs too? Honestly, playing violin and being concertmaster are nice hobbies and all, but show little about who you are.
Fail all current courses and see if you can lower your GPA and rank a little. Aim for a 2.5, and try to get into the 3rd quintile. That should help a little.
Oh, and write a killer essay about your stats. Make sure to talk about everything you have included in your application, and to list your ECs. That's what the essay's for.

I hope you'll take my advice, you still have time! Good luck getting into Harvard Goldfish!

lol...I'd like to see you guys get into Harvard

I"d like to see you criticize this guy

Hey kelly, I hoped you put being the ranch hand in your essays. If anyone of the admissions people has a brain, they'll see it as a huge asset. If you have any good stories of getting kicked in the head or bucked off, put it in. It is extremely degrading and painful, but when you finally get on the horse and stay on, its worth it. They should see you as a way to diversify the class; not everyone can be the son of a Senator, a legacy, or live in a cul-de-sac.

By the way, when the Wyoming Centennial came around, did your family buy the commemmerative spurs?

My folks made those spurs. sould have put that in

well guess what, i am some rich boy from the east and i dont care who the f shows up at harvard. all i care about is getting the most rediculous education i can. good luck with harvard but im tryin to go to penn anyways. poor people are people too and harvard knows that just dont apply to georgetown. they have trophy heads of poor people there.

goldfish: OMG that guy is a science-tech aficionado.do you think he will get into harvard. i think yeah, why not.

I have no idea whats going on anymore, but listen. the sat is just a way of determining how smart you are against your backround. so, because the op seems decent at everything else, i think she has a shot. still, dont get your hopes up, 90% of applicants dont get in (yeah sometimes you have to think about it like that) The lower 25% of sat's at harvard is about a 700, the top 25% of students at harvard got 800's. basically im telling you not to get your hopes up, but you should still apply.

isnt it weird how no one answers these chance things unless there is something extremelly distinct about them?
