If it helps you at all I know a couple people with low scores that have go to amherst. One was with high gpa, okay sat scores (not sure but I think like 2000) but she was recruited for soccer. She was white however. Another got a 1950 was black and got in. He was good at sports, but he never talked to the coach or anything and nothing like you in terms of talent. I would say you have a very good chance at Amherst… good luck!

First off, thanks a lot for the replies!!

Also, I was wondering…I go to an extremely competitive Benedictine High School where the acceptance rate to this school is about 9%. all my classes at this high school other, than my AP’s of course, are honors. Does that improve my chances at all? I also do not(will not) send my SAT scores to Holy Cross. Also, if my essay stands out to the admission staff will that also increase the chances? Sorry for these questions… I’m just nervous… Can you re-evaluate on that basis? Thanks again :)

Fordham: Safety

Wade, you sound like you have a lot going for you and I would say you have a chance at all of these schools. Amherst and Williams are probably as hard, if not harder, to get into as any Ivy. The real point I wanted to make, if you didn’t already know, is that the NESCAC school coaches (Amherst, Williams, M’bury) can all “slot” you if they choose to. That is to say, if they really want you and you fit within their school’s profile, academically, your acceptance is all but assured. Each coach only gets a limited number of these “slots” I would suggest. If I were you I would ask each of them the question directly, “Do you have a ‘slot’ available for me?” Good luck and please post where you end up.
