Hi
I am an international student- an Indian. Just chance me at my most worrying SAT score - 1640 (horrible I know!!!) cr=490, m=630, w=520. By the way I secured 95% (at 9th grade), 98% (at 10th grade), 96% (at 11th grade) and I usually get 2nd rank. I would have no problem in getting good recommendation from my teachers and principal. Ive spent a lot time in extra currics during my 10th and 11th grade. My essays would be fine too.

Here goes the long list:

Your scores are not horrible by any means! The US national average for the SATs is around 1500 so hang your hat on that. Being from MA I can give good insight into UMass. I’d say you definitely have a legit chance there. As for the other schools, I’d say your biggest long shots are Purdue, Alabama, and Oregon, but again I think with your scores and grades you still could get into those schools! Good luck!

What do you want to study? You have schools listed that are in big cities, small towns, and the middle of nowhere; does location matter to you? How about the weather? Do you want a significant Indian community? Any particular activities or sports? Large or small classes? Any other factor you’d want to consider?

Are you going to require financial aid? We ask because it can affect your list of places to apply.

** Major:** Undecided (actually my father is a Physics prof. at a state university, mother has done PGDM (Post Graduate and Diploma in Management ) and is a housewife, my brother is doing MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) and I myself from Science group but I’m really undecided over various programmes in sci. and engg. I’ve no significant reason to choose one over the other and love each of them. So, I think I should better go undecided (also this choice is not offered here!!!). Location: Doesn’t matter. Weather: Doesn’t matter too. Indian Community: I’m from the national capital region- New Delhi. It has a great diversity (of both Indian community and foreign community). So, again it doesn’t matter me. Also I know nearly each prestigious university in US has a great diverse student population from India and other countries. Activities or Sports: Nothing particular.
**Class size: ** Doesn’t matter. Other factors: <no other="" particular="" factors.="" btw="" you="" may="" ask="" me="" for="" any="" factor=""> Financial Aid: Not required- will be taking loan.</no>

@collegeSpirant I think you will get into many of these colleges, It will not be a problem. Especially KU it shouldn’t be a problem. Until unless you want to apply for the honors program which is 2nd best in the nation… i don’t know about that,
