do i have any chance with my low gpa? Im applying for DEA interior Design in Human Ecology
I am hoping my essay/rec letters and application might catch the attention of the admission officers for DEA, since my application+essay will have a big theme on how much i love art/design.

Very good personal statement (about how art changed my life)
Took classes at community college (art1,2, design, econ, psych, socio, korean 2,3)
My gpa's been improving every semester (9th 1st sem: 3.3 11th 2nd sem: 4.3)

also does cornell verify if every single EC were legit? For example, in 10th grade, i was accepted into CSF because of my gpa, but was named inactive member because i didnt complete the minimum hr. Also how would they check if my art works were displayed in art shows? How would they verify that I have been playing trumpet(my hobby) in hs if i was never involved in or was not good enough to be in recitals or concerts other than in hight school?

I cannot stress how important it is to be honest... both for your own integrity and of course the college might find out. For instance, you might have an alum interview with someone who is familiar with your high school... he/she might even have a child who attends your high school and therefore might be familiar with your art/music shows. Just tell the truth, you'll sleep better at night and it's the right thing to do.

You didn't say whether or not you were male or female. You might have a easier shot statistically if you were a guy in that particular major.

I am going to second what Tahoe said. You do need to be honest. And it is perfectly ok to have been in art shows and not to have won any prizes and to be in the HS Band and not to have been the featured performer in a concert. It's ok to be ok. You do not have to be a super star in everything you do. People like that usually burn out before they turn 40.
I was actually on the DEA site yesterday as one of the other cc posters said she was interested in design. I noticed that you might need to do a portfolio for that major. Please check the website carefully or contact someone from DEA to get the particulars. Though you already have the portfolio-- they did give certain guidelines as to how it should be done. As I am artistically challenged I did not even check it out- but there was a reference made to it. If the portfolio is part of the admission process (and I think it is), that in itself is going to be a big deciding factor in whether you gain admission or not. Your grades/SAT's are fine. I think the make or break deal is going to be the portfolio and your artistic ability. It sounds like a fabulous program. Good luck.

My concern is how to show that real interest. Our student has the appropriate numbers to get accepted but has not done "research" but really enjoyed biology and chemistry but is not interested in being a "full-fledged" scientist, if you will. The combination of the hard sciences and social sciences is the definite draw, especially with the Human Biology, Health, and Society and the Biology and Society major. ANy input would be welcomed.
