Northwestern
Drexel
Penn State

Thanks and sorry for the long post!

Your UW GPA is around 3.875 (or 3.9 without 9th grade). By the time you apply for schools, you may be AP scholar with honor. You won’t be with distinction until your finished 12 grade. Your EC is weak though. Are you hispanic? Where is your home state?
As of now, you should be high match for Northwestern and Cornell. Low reach to reach for other ivy leagues. You may want to work on your EC to make it more outstanding from other candidates.

Thanks for chancing me! I am Hispanic and I live in PA, just to clarify things. I also plan to major in some kind of medical science or engineering field, although I am still not set on what in particular yet.

Keep the opinions coming please!

So you should have some advantage as URM. For subject test, you may want to replace Spanish with a science. Spanish for native speaker does not look impressive and you will need a science subject test for engineering or medical science.

Thanks for the advice! I will not take the Spanish SAT II. Anybody else?

I’d still take Spanish, but add another as well.

You can take Spanish, but it won’t help much. While having a science subject would be more essential. Since you can only take up to 3 subject test in June, you should probably leave the Spanish to Fall if you really want to take that.

Princeton: Reach
Harvard: Reach
Yale: Reach
Cornell: Low Reach
U of Penn: Reach
Boston College: Match
Johns Hopkins: Low Reach
U Chicago: Low Reach/Reach
Northwestern: Low Reach
Drexel: Match
Penn State: In

Overall, a good list. Similar to mine, in fact. I had About 6 reaches, 4 maybes, and 2 safeties.

Reach for the stars, but don’t forget about your likely NMF scholarship. Apply to a full ride school and put it in your back pocket. BTW whenever people question the qualifications of minority students, please post your stats.

HYP: High Reach
Chicago, Penn: Moderate Reach
Cornell, JHU, Northwestern: Low Reach
BC: Match
Drexel, Penn State: In

Thanks for the responses guys! I really appreciate it :)

And sosomensa, I will if I come across something like that! I am not trying to use my ethnicity as a crutch like others may, and I was hoping that people would see that (which I guess you did!).

Any other opinions?

Bump! More help would be great! Feel free to add colleges that might be good fits for me.

Please help me out guys (and girls)!

I’m not going to chance you unfortunately. I would, however, like to give you an encouraging piece of advice. You do not need to be a superstar with 13 fingers, reptilian DNA, and the ability to see the fourth dimension to be able to get into Harvard.

My older brother’s friend was accepted into Harvard this year. First off, her classes were relatively easy. She had at least 1 full block of study hall all four years in high school, she only took AB Calc, she didn’t take an AP science class (I think), etc. Second off, she didn’t have THAT many extra-curriculars. She was the president of a school magazine club, she was the president of multicultural club, and she did community service, but that’s about it.

She is, however, a passionate person when it comes to doing what she loves. I believe that she is a writer, and her passion for writing probably shows through her leadership in the writing club I previously mentioned and through her essay. She is also a first gen and a low income student, so if you are either of those your chances are increased.

So why am I telling you this? So many people try to mold themselves into what they believe that top colleges want from them. I’m telling you that you don’t need to do that. It’s great to reach your full potential and participate in all of the activities that you love, but don’t become something that you’re not.

Consider Steve Jobs for a moment. He didn’t attend an Ivy League school, yet he was still an extremely influential man. Contrary to what a large amount of high school students think, you don’t need to go to Harvard in order to be brilliant.

id say harvards a reach, maybe a low reach
theres many other factors u didnt provide me
not 100% low reach b/c your extracurriculars aren’t excellent. theyre good, not outstanding.

Thanks! What do you think about the other schools on my list?

It’s say Harvard is not an easy acceptance, but definitely possible with a stellar essay. I feel like as juniors, there is not much we can add to extracurriculars without looking suspicious, and we just end up like we’re packing out app. I’d say just make sure your personality shines through your essays and that Harvard and all those other top schools see you for the awesome person that I’m sure you are!

Also, thanks for chancing me!

Thank you for the insight! Anybody else?

Does anybody have any different opinions?

Princeton-Reach
Harvard-High Reach
Yale-High Reach

U of Penn-Reach
Boston College-(Please don’t even try to apply for this college. This college is sooo OVERRATED…)

Penn State-?
^-Sorry I don’t really know much about these schools, so I can’t give you accurate answers… :frowning:
You should really try to narrow down your IVY schools. IVY colleges, in particular, don’t like to see their applicants applying to all IVY schools, because they will get a feeling that those students don’t really care about which college they get into. Showing strong interest to your schools will definitely help you raise your standing as an applicant.
