I'd like to see my chances at the following colleges (either % or safety/match/reach etc):

Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Penn
Schreyers (Penn State Honors College)
Cornell
Dartmouth
Washington University in St. Louis
University of Chicago

THANKS FOR YOU HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You'll get Penn State. And probably Wash U, if they don't do that weird waitlisting thing. Beyond that, it's up to the rest of your application.

Best wishes!

thanks ses! any other feedback?

and should i also apply to duke?

you'll have a good shot at duke and about average at ur multitude of ivies. i could see you getting into 5 or 6 out of those 9. (washu, pennstate, 3ivies that will be pretty random). i hear of people that get into harvard that don't get into dartmouth or vice versa so it's hard to say which ones you'll get into. just roll the dice, right a good essay and cross ur fingers. u have a good shot though.

oh yeah. and cornell and chicago are better bets than the others.

thanks a lot token! any others?

My guess is that you'll be waitlisted at WashU. My good friend (4.0, 2300 SATs, amazing ECs) got waitlisted because they assumed (correctly) he wouldn't want to go there anyway. He's now at Brown.

I wish I saw more volunteer hours in your application, but 1600 hours tutoring is impressive nonetheless.Your scores, grades, schedule etc are all very impressive. Your weakness is definitely a lack of volunteering in your community, but despite that, I think you will get in at Penn and PennState honors, and most likely at one of your higher reach schools (Harvard, Princeton, etc.) though you can never say which one. Good luck!

well what i guess i should have included in my resume is what I'm doing this summer.

On the positive side: I'm volunteering for approxmately 200 hours at Fox Chase Cancer Center, and me and 4 of my friends are starting up a free tutoring service to make up for our school's largely ineffective nhs tutoring program.

On the negative side: Colleges are probably getting the impression that my passion is tutoring, when in truth, I actually don't like it. I only do it because I'm really good at getting through to kids by making difficult concepts seem basic. Nonetheless, would colleges think worse of me knowing that I'm not really passionate about tutoring?

u have good chances at any of tehse schools and great chances at chicago, penn state and washington university

Unweighted GPA: 4.81
Weighted GPA: 3.94

I believe its the other way around?

You have great chances. Persian would qualify as middle eastern and you have amazing stats.

Harvard - LOW REACH
Yale - LOW REACH
Princeton- LOW REACH
Penn - SAFETY
Schreyers (Penn State Honors College) - SAFETY
Cornell - SAFETY
Dartmouth -SAFETY
Washington University in St. Louis - MATCH
University of Chicago- MATCH

You've got to be kidding me with this.

what is he being too lenient?

I'm going to Penn in the fall, and I don't think I would call Penn a safety for anyone. At the absolute best, for a URM legacy from Wyoming, I'd say it's a 'match.'

The fact that he rated Chicago as a match, and Penn and Dartmouth as a safety shows that he has no clue what he's talking about.

In general, the ratings were far too lenient. I think the OP has a good shot at most of these schools, but the above ratings are pretty absurd.

Harvard- 10%
Yale- 10%
Princeton- 10%
Penn- 20%
Schreyers (Penn State Honors College)- 90%
Cornell- 40%
Dartmouth- 20%
Washington University in St. Louis- 50%
University of Chicago- 30% (they're gonna be a lot harder next year)

It's great that you're volunteering, that will help you a lot. My suggestion about your tutoring quandary: don't say outright that tutoring is your passion, because it's not and that would be a lie, but don't bother declaring that it isn't in your essays. Focus on something you're really passionate about and let colleges draw their own conclusions from your activities.

Cornell is no one's safety. I doubt with that mindset you understand how difficult it is to get into Cornell, Penn, and/or Dartmouth.

Apply to some good liberal arts colleges that aren't safeties just to be safe. You wouldn't want to be somehow rejected from all your schools. Applying to almost all Ivies (with no colleges you are 100% sure you're getting into) is a mistake. And just because Cornell, Penn, and Dartmouth aren't as respected as the others doesn't mean you'll get in. Go through those U.S. News Rankings to find a good start. And when you're looking at those schools, look for a school you'll enjoy, don't apply just cause it's higher on the ratings.

This is true. My thought is that Chicago, even though the applicant pool is increasing, is still choosing students based on their academic goals coinciding with that of the schools'.

If I were you, I would kill the all-ivy approach and instead think closely and carefully about what you want in a college. If you go by looking at what you want in a school, you'll only have four or five Ivies at most on your list, plus you'll be able to select some more match/likely schools that might be easier to get into than the Ivy league.

gawd, how much does your school bump for Honors and AP classes?
