Chances at IVIES, MIT, NYU, DUKE, JHU?!?!?!

Im a Indian HS senior at a competitive public school in NYC. This is my second thread, as I didn't get alot of feedback last time.

My GPA is right now around a 91/100(Weighted), which my college advisor says is a 3.7-3.8. My midyears should be really good, considering Im anticipating an avg around 99/100, with a 99-100 in AP Calc, 94 in AP Chem, and 90 in AP Eng. Toughest cirrculum possible. New school, so we only had AP US Hist. and AP Span. last year. We don't rank.

AP's
US Hist-4
Chem-will take
Calc. BC-will take
Eng-will take

ACT: 34 (33 E, 34 M, 34 R, 36 S, 10 W)
SAT IIs: Chem-770, Math IIC-800

EC's and awards are average...Math Team, Hospital Volunteer, Service, Key Club are probably the highlights, Various Awards, Nothing very special, NO sports because my school has no sports, literally.
The ECs are a bit hindered due to the fact that my school is new(we are the 2nd graduating class), and that I have two younger sisters to take care of, while my parents work for like 14 hours a day...

I have work experience as a Tutor, and soon I'll start working at a Cellphone store.

Essays: I think they are good. My AP Eng teacher said my Common App essay was good. Plus I decided to gamble and be different with my essays. I think it will be fine.

Recs: Awesome. My Sci. and Math Recs span 2 pgs each, and have an unbelievable outside Rec from a Texas Tech professor.

And if anyone knows what the NYS regents are, I did very well on them. Nothing below 93 except on Spanish. Average Score is like a 95 excluding Spanish.

So what are my chances at...
Yale
MIT
Columbia
NYU
Johns Hopkins
Sophie Davis (if anyone knows what it is)
Duke
Binghamton
McGill (I was going to apply, but my dad stopped me. Still I'd like to transfer later on)

And if anyone would like to suggest any other schools for me, please feel more than free too. I don't mind transferring at any time. I'll definitely check it out.

Thanks, all help is apperciated! Thanks alot for any feedback!!

Sorry, but with stats like that you better stick with your local county college. You're simply donating money to each school with the application fees.

gpa is going to hurt you alot...w/ a 91 W which is a 3.7Weighted which is very yea...still apply though gl!

thanks darkhope
and i doubt im just "donating" to the schools

with the gpa thing, i sorta slacked off soph. yr, but I have a major upward trend...

What's your class rank. If school doesn't rank where are you in your class?

i think I'm in the 20th or 30th percentile

I don't know if this accounts for anything, but my 91 weighted gpa has only 1 weighted class, (APs are weighted only), I only take honors/ap classes, and the 91 includes Spanish. My average would be around a 95-96 without spanish. And to demonstrate the upward trend, I had an 88 at the end of Soph Yr, and a 96 at the end of Junior Year

Yale, MIT, Columbia and Duke are highly unlikely. NYU will probably accept you but forget it if you need $$. Don't know enough about the others.

Most of your schools are reaches. I'd say you're in at McGill and NYU (if you need money i hope you have a financial back up). No idea about sophie davis and binghampton

I would say that is a big stretch for the ivies. your gpa of a 91 is low for any ivy school and without any outstanding ecs or great community service projects that is a major downfall. nyu is more of a match for you than any ivies and although you can apply i dont think that there is anything that makes you stand out to an ivy school. your gpa is also really low compared to other ivy students and applications so that will hurt you.

A 91/100 is actually about a 3.5, so your unweighted GPA is probably 3.4-3.5, which is going to hurt you at the top schools.

Yale: 1%
MIT: 1%
Columbia: 1%
NYU: 40%
Johns Hopkins: 20%
Sophie Davis (if anyone knows what it is): ??
Duke: 15%
Binghamton: If this refers to SUNY...70%.

Good luck.

vicissitudes...percentages are fun! will you give me a percentage chance for my schools? ;)

If you want, start a thread.

nah thanks I was kidding.

I've had so many chances threads it's sickening.

Excellent chance at Hopkins. Hope to see you next year!

thanks jimmy...i hope so also

and if you guys could, I'd like some transfer suggestions because I was aiming too high this year with my college choices, according to everyone here

Duke: 15%

[/quote]

That's a pretty generous estimate. Last year Duke admitted 8.59% of those in the top 10-20% of their class and 4.33% of those below the top 20% of their class.

iftiarc, I'm assuming you're a prospective BME major? You have some great choices, and hopefully you'll get into at least a couple. I wouldn't start looking for transfer schools quite yet.

no actually, ill minor in bio or chem and get all my pre-med classes over with. I'd like 2 major in something like economics, aeronautics, or cosmology. I intend on either dbl majoring or minoring in bio/chem
