<p>After some recent guidance counselor check-ups, I've been able to update my stats:</p>

<p>Gender: M
Race: Caucasian
Location: Wisconsin
College Class Year: 2015
High School: Public
High School Type: rarely sends grads to top schools</p>

<p>Academics: 4.15 unweighted on a 4.33 scale. Top 2% of a class of 400.</p>

<p>Courses taken:
School only offers 5 and I've taken 4 - one, US Government, was self-study.</p>

<p>Scores:</p>

<p>ACT: 35 (34E, 34M, 35R, 35S) and an 8/12 on the essay (I know it's not great) for a combined English score of 31
6.0/6.0 on district-wide writing sample (basically same thing as ACT essay, just scored much better on it)</p>

<p>Extracurriculars:</p>

<p>Significant Extracurriculars: School newspaper, Rube Goldberg/Physics Club, High school radio station, Forensics/Theater, National Honor Society, Student Government, City Council representative, Political campaign intern at national and state level
Leadership positions: Editor of school newspaper, contributor of a specific monthly humor section, Project leader of Rube Goldberg team, Executive underwriter (in charge of promotions and managing clients) of radio station, Student representative of City Council
Volunteer/Service Work: Volunteer work at radio station, involved with local theater productions, work with political campaigns, helping with school office work, helping with local homeless shelter
Honors and Awards: High academic honors (3.75+) every semester of high school, National Merit Scholar, State awards for Rube Goldberg machine
Others: Play electric guitar for 6 years and drums for 2. </p>

<p>Planned hook: Politics and law; I've been contributing to political campaigns since 2004 and some of my major positions include an internship at a 2008 presidential campaign and, this summer, an internship at senate and state senate campaigns. Politics has led to huge disputes and huge connections between my family, who are all also politically involved, and that's what I plan to write about, since it connects with my desired major.</p>

<p>Also, no, I didn't just go down USNWR's rankings and pick the top 10. I've visited almost all of these schools and I would love to attend them all. Please be honest, and thanks!</p>

<p>I feel the same as Soccer except I think Uchicago is a reach. . .i find it harder to evaluate people with only an ACT than with only an SAT, as most of the applicants to the schools you put take the SAT. Your ACT is impressive though and you certainly have good stats as far as ec’s and grades are concerned. It would have been better if you had taken all of your schools APs and you seeem to be lacking in the awards section, that being said it certainly seems like you are competitive. Being from Wisconsin will help you since colleges love geographic diversity so much</p>

<p>I think Princeton, Stanford and Harvard are gonna be the tough ones… but all the others are looking very good.</p>
