Thanks for reading!

Highly unlikely. Below top 10% rarely happens for a Non hooked candidate without something truly exceptional. Not in top 2% is unlikely.

How would my chances Be If I was top 10%?

any input would be nice, thanks

^Not much better considering you have a 1700 SAT

Almost no chance. You are outside of the top 10% and your SAT score is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy below any of the schools bottom 25%.

ok if i had 1900 sat score and top 10% then what are my chances? and i thought schools are grading less scholastically and more holistically.

No Jimmy you aren’t getting in with those stats, and a 1900 and top 10% isn’t getting you in either.

You’re a well-below average Ivy applicant, aim lower.

@jimmys525: If you had a 1900 and you were in the top 10% of your graduating class, your chances at the Ivies would still be relatively low simply because you are non hooked applicant as Redroses mentioned. The average SAT score necessary for Ivy League admittance is around 2200.

However, not all hope is lost. If you do get a 1900 and top 10%, and write an amazing award winning super essay, keyword being **“amazing award winning, and super” lol ** then I can see you getting into at least one of the Ivies. Maybe you can focus on a specific EC and write about how it was life changing or such (if it was). Not to be a pessimist or anything, but its gonna be a lot of work. However, increasing your SAT score will definitely boast your chances by a lot.

Best of luck in your application!

Chance me back? : )

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1004303-chance-me-chocolate-chip-cookie.html

ok thanks ballpointpen, but i dont have much experience gauging whether to grade your chance holistically or scholastically so I don’t want to give you the wrong idea. Im guessing #1 for triathlon in state and varsity for sports doesn’t count for much. Sounding like i have to be a robot in order to get into these schools judging by most of responses.

aim for cornell/dartmouth. and those are probably the strongest part of your EC

Hey jimmy, I’m, just suggesting that you try taking the ACT, which is a curriculum based exam. Some people find it the better of the two exams, and it isn’t uncommon for the persons who score low on the SAT to score much better on the ACT and if you take the ACT, you don’t have to submit the SAT as it is widely accepted as a replacement for the exam. Just a suggestion in case you want to try the ACT, you never know, you may do exceptionally better on the ACT than you would on the SAT. Just trying to help :)

No shot at any Ivies. Low grades and SATs keep you out of the running.

what do you mean by the ACT is curriculum based? ( sorry i haven’t taken them before) thanks for the answers guys.

Well, I’m not a professional, so don’t quote me lol but that means that the ACT is content based, such as information that is taught in school, while the SAT is more focused on reasoning- critical thinking and problem solving. However, you should keep in mind that unlike the SAT which is critical reading, writing and mathematics, the ACT includes science, mathematics, writing (optional- I think many universities require it), reading and english.

Hopefully someone else here can explain it better.

[Edit]

Just decided to add this.

The ACT seems to demand better time-management than the SAT as it seems you have less time per question. The time allotment is as follows:

45 minutes for a 75-question English section
60 minutes for a 60-question Math section
35 minutes for a 40-question Reading Comprehension section
35 minutes for a 40-question Science section

ok thanks for the input
